A little orphan girl is the only person who feeds the puppy, and it's half of the only bologna and ketchup sandwich that she gets every day. The orphanage keeper is a raging alcoholic and beats her if she asks for more food. She's so hungry, but she's kind too and shares her food with the mangled puppy. Then one day, the orphan girl is beaten more than usual by the alcoholic orphanage keeper and runs away. It starts to snow and it gets dark out. She finds an alley to sleep in, and the mangled puppy with one eye curls up next to her. They are both frozen dead the next morning. This story has a happy ending because they both went to heaven.
