Lads, was watching a podcast about why god allows suffering. The apologist is affable enough and well-spoken, but all of the arguments put forward just feel so empty. It always amounts to variations on 'but isn't it conceivable that there would be some good to come from some of it? wouldn't some people come to faith as a result? who can say since we're not gods ourselves?'.Is this really the pinnacle of theological apologia? But also, it doesn't escape me that those arguments really do convince huge numbers of people, while equally those arguments fail to convince huge numbers of people too. The difference in who is convinced by what arguments is itself something which you would think religious people may find concerning. There appears to be no clear way to actually convince people of the categorical universal truth and people do not choose what they are convinced of to begin with, so if salvation is dependent on being convinced of various religious claims then the very nature of the way things are guarantees that there will be people who could never have been saved to begin with. Essentially creating life to guarantee that it suffers.
