Mormonism thrives in small farming communities which is almost almost everywhere in Utah except for a handful of cities where you aren't exposed to outsider culture. In places where you have no choice but to interact with outsiders, you are basically encouraged to do the opposite of critical thinking from a very young age. The church uses community to create good feelings that you associate with the church for your whole life, and indoctrinates you into believing that those good feelings are evidence of its truthfulness. I grew up in Utah and I have friends that are incredibly smart and competent in their fields but their brains shut down immediately whenever I talk to them about any of the points you raised or any of the other obvious logical contradictions in the churches history or literature. I don't talk about these things to them because they seem happier and better off than me so why bother. Not everyone has to have a factually correct world view. Believe it or not you can worship a pedophile con artist and be just fine in America today.
