>person adds me on discord because i said i was a sperg
>talk for a bit
>he's like "what are you reading these days?"
>i tell the truth and say "CSM stuff"
>starts blabbering about how he loves something called chainsaw man and that i have great taste
>apparently i'm retarded and the acronym CSM doesn't register to most people as "Command and Service Module" (like the one used for the apollo/later Skylab flights)
>he ghosts me afterward
i feel like my identity has been profoundly disrespected
>>
How do Command and Service Modules work, anon? Sounds a lot cooler than some vapid shonenshit.

they worked fairly well, for the most part. "service" module is almost an understatement: one contained essentially everything needed for a trip to the moon; fuel, oxygen, fuel cells (for electricity), RCS thrusters for directional/attitude control, and a very large engine bell.
well, one of them blew up en-route to the moon, but given the amount of systems dependent on the equipment in there, i think it did okay.
they were versatile as well, being used for the first apollo test flights (on the smaller Saturn I/IB), the Apollo/Soyuz mission between the US/USSR, the actual lunar missions, and finally Skylab arrival/return trips in the early 70s.
