Can one of you lads help shed some light on something for me?I work in an office in a regular job. It's boring, but it pays the bills and I'm a grown adult so I turn up, do my job and go home. We had a temp show up from an agency the other week, a 20 year old guy looking to earn some money during a break from uni. He turns up, says hi, gets put to work. He's shown how to do things by anyone with a free moment and one time it was me. He needed to do some filing so I showed him what to do and he seemed fine so I left him and went back to work. I checked 15 minutes later and he was literally standing in the exact spot I left him in not doing anything and having done no work at all. I asked if he's alright and he says 'um actually can you show me what to do?'.He just stood there doing nothing for 15 minutes and didn't ask for help. Why? Then other people start complaining that he's not doing any work. He'll be put to a task and then ten minutes later someone will see him just sitting around on his phone and try and get him to get back to work. Then rinse and repeat another ten mins later. He was eventually let go after his second week because he just refused to do the work.My question is what drives this sort of behaviour? Nobody enjoys their job, but it's a job and you're paid to do it so just do it. I don't get why he just refused. It's not like he walked out of the building or anything, he was still stuck there for the same amount of time, but simply wasn't working.
