Not got a knife now though, unfortunately. Need to get another. Could stab people in the bum, kek.

True story:
>bought a pack of Duracell CR2025 batteries for the car key
>after replacing, it kept telling me that it needed replacing again
>replace it again
>car says it needs replacing again
>used the whole pack, throwing the old ones away every time
>left a 1 star review on Amazon saying they were the worst batteries ever
>after doing some internet research, realised that it was because of a second key in a drawer in the house

Turns out, the car still communicates regularly with the other key whenever you start the engine, and expects you to replace the battery in that one as well. I just removed the battery from the 2nd key now.

>>85746092
with absolutely zero evidence or research, i FEEL like battery collections from shops (or some councils, if you put them in a bag) might actually recycle them into batteries.

it's less old envelopes in a giant bin, more like pulping old books or melting down copper or something. surely there's a value to all that bulk material (for making more of the same/similar items)

Batteries are one of the few things that are worth recycling. They leach horrible chemicals into landfill if you don't recycle, and they do actually recycle them if you take them back to shops.

Other stuff like plastic is often sent overseas to be "recycled" (end up in a river in India). Which I would argue is still better than it being in Britain.

Don't ever reach Bronte novels, they are insufferable and impossible for a man to enjoy.

It's basically a very early form of romance novel for Victorian uptight women, except instead of wealthy psychopaths who tie them up and rape them, or vampires who bite them and rape them, it's just wealthy British men who scorn them but the female reader gets hot and bothered because he's vaguely unavailable and "dangerous" for other reasons.

Women have been rubbing their fannies for centuries over these imagined scenarios of "vaguely dangerous unavailable man ends up loving her".

there's some behind-the-scenes footage of Richard O'Brien meeting a team before they were on The Crystal Maze. goes on about how a magazine stitched him up as some nancy boy crossdressing poofter.

but if the dust ever settles on this current culture war, i think he makes a good point that clothes are just clothes. dunno, that'll always be true, that IS the social construct/fashion aspect (maybe aside from form-fitting for hips and chests)

the world was in a better place in the 90s.

The real problem with AI is it's getting good enough to trick you. Reading new books and listening to new albums is a minefield. Even bands like FFDP (not exactly high art but still) are using AI for album art and assumedly their actual songs now.
>>
>>85750495
people have been saying this from the start, but we'll need to accept it's part of the overall process/toolchain. you can be actively anti-AI, but that's like being 'anti-Photoshop': at some stage in any collaborative creative medium, someone will have used AI.

it's like if you're some horror director and you commit to only using practical effects, no CGI. lovely stuff. but then what if the propmaster comes in and says
>hi mate, made you those props you asked for. i found some models online and here they are, fresh from the 3D printer.

i dislike that we're pretending it's bad because of plagiarism or whatever. all art was already remixed, copyright is a ridiculous concept. at any point in Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon did he credit Star Wars? we all know it's his Star Wars. and Star Wars is Flash Gordon x The Hidden Fortress. that's just how it works.
>>

I don't necessarily mind AI helping the process but if it gets to the stage where bands aren't even playing instruments then that's fucking grim. I did find it funny that people were angry about Dream Theatre using AI for their album art when their album covers have always been digital slop anyway.

what about sequencers?
i like me some Pet Shop Boys, apparently they had issues early on because the industry/fans wanted them to do live gigs but they weren't a 'live act', they were producing bleeps and bloops to be played back.

i'm guessing musicians/groups like that just play the main melody on one synthesizer? but then you also have pop stars (particularly women) who JUST sing. idk, it's just weird to me when it's like
>here's a woman singing a song she didn't write, with a backing track or anonymous backing band, to an audience of thousands of fans in a football stadium.

i know people who can sing, they could just sing the song.

Part of the problem of benchmarking AI outside of technical parameters is that the point at which it can get good enough to trick (you) will differ from the point at which is is good enough to trick Joe Schmoe off the street. Turing tests vary depending on the intelligence of the tester. For a good while now we've had AI that can produce outputs which very comfortably convince the bottom 50% of people that it's 'real', or at least otherwise indistinguishable from something produced by a person, be it conversations, art, text etc.

The interesting stuff comes from when it gets good enough to start convincing the top 50%, little by little. Wild rides ahead.

wish i'd kept track of post arrival times in recent days. but the only letter i've received in the past week was from the council (electoral register thing, just binned it tbqh), think it arrived while i was asleep.

>>85750631
Yeah but Pet Shop Boys put those bleeps and bloops together, not AI. Taking the human element out of art just ruins it.
>>85750642
You're right about that. Some people are fooled by very obvious AI. My older parents often fall for it and they're not complete idiots, just not great with modern technology.

Force employers to pay a living wage and give them a tax cut instead of pitting the poor and unfortunate against eachother.

I don't think that being disabled entitles anyone to anything they didn't earn. Also, come on, being 'le autistic' is just another one of those fake disabilities with diagnostic criteria so open and vague anyone can get a diagnosis if they want to. Even within the framework of welfare as a concept it's nonsense.

I disagree. Proper NHS autistic diagnosis is thorough and has strict criteria. Regardless, the majority of autistic people are unemployed and/or unemployable unless they're some sort of savant. And getting PIP isn't as easy for mental health or neurodivergence as people think. So what do you suggest we do with disabled people? Euthanasia? Employers don't want to hire them and normoids like you would rather they didn't exist.

>I disagree. Proper NHS autistic diagnosis is thorough and has strict criteria.
Nope, I was given one myself and I'm fine, it's amazingly easy to get a diagnosis.
>Regardless, the majority of autistic people are unemployed and/or unemployable unless they're some sort of savant.
I agree and this is a real indictment against the nation. But this is not a problem solely for autistic people. We currently have a growing NEET population for various reasons, whether or not autistic people are affected more by those conditions is besides the point.
>And getting PIP isn't as easy for mental health or neurodivergence as people think.
Yes it is.
>So what do you suggest we do with disabled people? Euthanasia? Employers don't want to hire them and normoids like you would rather they didn't exist.
I don't think it's the job of the government to 'do' anything with autistic people. Nobody is entitled to other peoples' money, beyond that they can do as they please within the confines of the law. Personally I would recommend broad deregulation of the economy to help autistic people get jobs.

i mean, maybe that's true now. but what i did, i don't think you could 'fake' that. there was actual testing and at least 2 people watching me the whole time. it wasn't just 'fill out this agree/disagree form to see if you meet the criteria'. i'm pretty sure if i 'faked it', they'd know. and how many chancers would commit to that?

Lad, you're not getting it, you're still focused on the means by which this all happens. My point is that the fact it happens at all is the problem. Being sick or disabled or impaired sucks, it really does, and to the extent your life is difficult I am very sorry, but absolutely none of that entitles you to other people's stuff.

Well that's the thing, I don't place much stock into it because I find it to be an over-diagnosed nonsense category. But more to the point I am capable of empathy, in fact my heart truly does go out to people who are disabled and have a tough lot in life. But I'm also rational and principled. Bad luck on someone else's part does not entitle them to other people's property.

None of us would be in a position to earn money without being born into a society that is much larger than any one individual. And I think we all have a responsibility to look after the weakest individuals in our society.

You view it through a lens of entitlement. I view it through a lens of responsibility. That's where our values fundamentally differ.
