if you put sage in the options field when replying, the thread won't bump. but it's still a reply. so bump order shows threads ordered as they appear on the pages, and last reply shows them by most recent reply.

it's possible to reply to a thread without bumping it. for example if you're the OP.
if you switch between last reply and bump order you'll see a couple of slight changes to the catalog order
