So I have been posting about my plan to write a novel about a bunch of half-inch-tall people living in a highway cloverleaf. Obviously such people existing would be impossible, but presupposing that, I was curious about what kind of metals these people could mine from the roadway as apparently asphalt has a lot of trace minerals, and what they could be used for. They would live a mostly medieval society, turning old tree stumps into cities and such, living off of roadkill and insects. I am curious what they could do to survive rain, if one could dig enough tunnels to drain all the water without it getting into their underground living spaces, if they had them. Sorry if this is completely unfitting for /sci/ but someone in the /lit/ worldbuilding thread suggested I post here. >>>/lit/24631104
>>16757495If little people like that were possible I would build working models of radio controlled WW2 battleships. But additionally I would plant lots of explosives inside them. With exposed fuses everywhere. Then I would shove the half inch people inside, all dressed up like navy crew., manning the guns and in the engines rooms, and on the bridge of the ship. Then I would set them sailing around in a large pond and fire large red hot ball bearings at a high trajectory at them, reenacting famous naval battles of the time. Like the Battle of the Denmark Strait. When a ship received a near miss I would shout "WELL! THAT'S TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT!"And when the ship was hit with a red hot ball bearing that detonated an explosive and got blown the fuck up I would yell "BLIMEY! THE HOOD HAS BLOWN UP!"It would be hours of fun. For me. Not so much for the little people.
>>16757495Cody's lab used to have a video about harvesting rare earths from highway dust. Your little people could have easy access to aluminum, with trace niobium and platinum and probably other trace rare earths. Fissile material is one thing they probably can't access, but>medievalisn't a necessary limit given the availability of materials near a highway.
>>16757613Depending on how he situates his cloverleaf the little people could have their own pond or even access to a significantly large body of water.
>>16757495>>16757719How would the little people avoid all the homeless people that live under these cloverleafs?
>>16757719I really dont think you properly understood the nature of his psychotic post.>>16757613You are a bent and twisted individual. Those little people would doubtless be just as sentient as normal Humans, with lives and family just like us. And you want to use them as props to fuel your insane fantasies of German naval supremacy? Well you sick fuck the British had aircraft carriers. Fucking aircraft carriers. Guess how many aircraft carriers the Germans had? 0. That's right. None. Zero. Zilch. Now go and seek professional help for your profoundly disturbed state of mind.
it'd be badass if they lobbed globs of water at each other, hoping it'd envelope their opponents heads
>>16757748It won't matter. Half an inch size is way bigger than most insects and water droplets.
>>16757732They hunt them with fentanyl-poisoned weapons and harvest their skin for leather. Those skin lesions you see on junkies aren't from the drugs, they're from the little people collecting leather from giants who haven't quite overdosed yet.
>>16757757Their heads are only going to be about 1/16" tall which falls well within the size range of typical raindrops.>Raindrop Size Distribution and Evolutionhttps://sci-hub.st/10.1029/2010gm000971
>>16757732It's an interstate.>>16757657What kind of stuff could they make with that?>>16757719There is a swamp and that will be one faction. I am basing it off a real life location. Hopefully I don't get doxxed when I publish the book lol.>>16757613fucking kekRemote controlled battleships are cool to watch on youtube.>>16757764Actually stuff like that would be what they would try to use to kill the humans. If they did. but most of the other factions think they're psychotic for trying to wage war on humans.>>16757817oh that's a good point. Surface tension is gonna be a much bigger deal for them. Might ignore that part... not sure. I will definitely have to be selective about which parts of realism I employ, obviously.
>>16757495>tiny people mired in pollution with hydrology challenges You've described the Chinese. Look into Yu the Great.
>>16757495they would be kept as pets/sex toys for regular sized femboys
>>16758703>What kind of stuff could they make with that? This might not be a bad premise for a /diy/ thread.
>>16760304True, although I don't know if many people do micro-scale fabrication like that. I don't know how much the materials science changes when you go down 100x on the square cube law.
>>16760968>micro-scaleThese guys are 12,700 micrometers tall. A typical wargaming miniature (often hand painted with an autistic attention to detail) is twice that height. I don't suspect your guys are tiny enough to radically invalidate a /diy/ Anon's practical materials science experience.
>>16761169That's true, I shouldn't discount the kitbashers.
There will only be tiny males and giant females in the future
Asphalt gets really sticky on hot days, that could be pretty dangerous for a tiny person. They could get stuck in it and get burnt pretty badly.
>>16763186Unless there are two of you I encountered you on 4chan years ago.
>>16763250How much would they sink into it?Does this happen to ants and if not how do they avoid the issue?
>>16763186>>16757495The giant females should eat the tiny males o algo
>>16759182They would be kinda like that except no gunpowder.
>>16757613mark twain has written about this
>>16757495since the old /lit/ worldbuilding thread died early you might have missed that a new one was created so I'll link it for you >>>/lit/24667235
