Gold standards for thread are as follows:>Do NOT give medical advice>Do NOT feed the nursoids>Do NOT engage with premedsAnd most importantly>Do NOT respond to psych patientsThese guidelines are recommended by the AAFP and supported with grade A evidence.Thread question: what is your personal strategy for addressing patients who misunderstand the role of pharmaceuticals in health? I.e. "I just dont want to take so many pills" in a post-MI patient with a stent.

If someone tells a psychiatrist they want to kill abortionists in a abortion clinic they will be involuntarily hospitalized. If someone tells a psychiatrist they want to kill slaughterhouse workers in a slaughterhouse they will be involuntarily hospitalized. If thin person tells a psychiatrist they haven't eaten in a few weeks and have no plans to eat again for the next few months they will be involuntarily hospitalized. If someone tells a psychiatrist they want to kill a mohel who's about to circumcise an infant they will be involuntarily hospitalized. If a pregnant woman tells a psychiatrist she is about to go to an abortion clinic or take an abortion pill at home and abort her baby she will not be involuntarily hospitalized. This is true in all fifty states. If a slaughterhouse worker tells a psychiatrist he is about to go to work and slaughter some cows he will not be involuntarily hospitalized. If a abortionist tells a psychiatrist he's about to go to work and perform some abortions he will not be involuntarily hospitalized. If a mohel tells a psychiatrist they are about to circumcise an infant they will not be involuntarily hospitalized. Psychiatrists are evil hypocrites. If found guilty of treason in a court of law they should be given the death penalty.

For common non-narcotic drugs and stuff with really short half-life, like adenosine, how much does IV push rate really matter? Almost every nurse I've seen when demonstrating a slow push, does it over 10-15 seconds while claiming 2 minutes have passed. I'm pretty sure I've seen a lot of cardiac issues rise up because of this. In the few anesthesiology procedures I've seen, the anesthesiologist more or less slammed all of their meds, but I don't really know how long they're supposed to push for their meds. The only time I've ever seen a true slow push was hypertonic saline by the neuro residents.
I tried to have a conversation with non-med people and explain the pain of midlevel creep, and they all essentially called me “elitist” and “duped by the system” and said “I really don’t care who signs off on my meds as long as I can get them”
>>16760604>talks about western social norms>this is psychiatrists' fault, actuallyWhen you die your brain should be autopsied to see what worm was infesting it
>>16760969instead of talking about midlevel creep, talk more about qualifications or lack thereof for NPs.i personally think the AMA fucked it all up, but if you discuss how NPs are wheelin and dealin more than complaining about how theyre taking 400k jobs away to people who make under 100k then they might listen
>>16760969Midlevel creep is too obscure for normies outside the profession to get. Just remind them that 1. They and their insurance pays the full price regardless of who they see at the hospital 2. Midlevels objectively have less training, experience and intelligence, 3. They're more likely to suffer malpractice or die from a midlevel and are guaranteed to suffer a worse outcome according to The Science(TM)Just narrow it down into digestible logic they can stomach one at a time

If patients understood the gravity of how little common sense medtards truly have, from being holed-in for half their lives flipping through anki decks eyelids clamped, they’d have quite a visceral reaction. ADAR (all doctors are retards)
>>16760969>“I really don’t care who signs off on my meds as long as I can get them”They're right tho. If you don't think this you really were duped by the system. That's exactly what the midlevels are for among other things, med dispensers.I mean shit dude I went to a derm at a hair clinic lately because the Norwood reaper is starting his harvest on me and i decided to hop on fin, after a year of min. I was hoping for him to maybe illuminate me with some obscure knowledge, being a derm at a fucking hair clinic, then he unironically argued that min inhibits DHT production too. This is exactly the kind of guy that should be a midlevel. At that point i was like "alright whatever just give me the fucking meds retard". I even double checked after the visit if maybe I'm not the retard after all, but no.

>>16762618Buy steroid creams and avoid sitting on hard surfaces. Drink more water. >>16764041You did amazing dude, most people in my country, when they're in med school, try to just make it through and pass the exams. It's easier for me to remember medication if I divide them on what they're meant for, or what type of medication they are (SSRI, SNRI, NSAID, etc etc) and what specific cases they're also used for.>>16764922I feel like doctors learn more on the actual job than during med school, as biased as it sounds. You'll learn more when you actively see the cases you're meant to treat.
>>16764974because hot girlalso flat hot girl
>>16766979>learn more on the actual job than during med schoolDoes med school not have students on the wards in your country? Didactics are basically useless without ward experience to complement, yeah - but that don't mean you can't learn in med school wards and clinical didactics building off your preclinical knowledge
>>16767173In Argentina yes, you gotta do residency before you're allowed as a nurse/doctor, but for most of the career you're mostly studying from seeing dead bodies, and you don't go every day of the week to college since a lot of people need to work to survive. A lot of people study from books and assignments and PDFs the professors give, and exams are eliminatory. Learning by memory is more fomented over really understanding what does what with this kind of fast, chaotic system. In some parts of the country the career is free, or paid by the state. The issue is that the system is quite flawed and you'll end up really learning better once you're working under someone.I did like one year of med school, but couldn't get through due to mental health issues, and I can't sustain myself studying for 7 years. I'll try to get a career first as a surgical assistant, which takes less years and has a decent pay, and they're in demand, for the moment.
>>16767186And in some cases if you're advanced in your career, doctors will let you be present and watch during surgeries, and there's programs from other students who have been in the system for longer that try to help newer students pass tests.
>>16767189That's insane but I've heard similar things are happening even in places like the NHS in the UK which is why their students really struggle in residency here (US). I feel like I've only heard of South Asians (Indians, Pakistanis) having a similar level of clinical experience to American med students with actual ward-based rotations and observing surgeries. Here you're expected to devote your entire waking life to medicine (and cut down on sleep for that matter) for 4 years, and even more so once you enter residency. Intern year (first year of residency) is phenomenally brutal in every specialty, but especially surgery.
>>16765276>If you really believed in your theory instead of listening to your NP/PA betters, you would rub the minoxidil on your balls. What the fuck are you even talking about lmao. Why would i rub a vasodilator with a primarily localized effect and minimal systemic absorption when applied topically on my balls when i want more hair on my head? My balls got plenty, no help needed. Just ask your mom, she knows every follicle down there by heart.
>>16766979>I feel like doctors learn more on the actual job than during med schoolThere's nothing to feel like, that's literally how it's designed to be. Med school isn't to teach you how2doctor, it's to teach you the bare fundamentals you need to even know what the fuck is going on. It's like learning traffic laws before you sit in a car to learn driving.
>>16766979Thanks for hyping me up, bro. I ended up getting an 82 in the end after some questions were corrected.
>>16767284False, people used to just go to medical school to practice straight out. Specialties are just that - additional (now mandatory) training to specialize in a certain kind of work.
>>16767557>False, people used to just go to medical school to practice straight out.Yeah and plague doctors used to just fucking wing it. Standards change. Your point?
>>16767193Oh damn, here you can't really do residency if you're not really advanced in your career or at least have your degree, you need a legal certificate that allows for you to treat patients, or else there's gonna be some REALLY BIG issues with the hospital. Private colleges are more intensive and have more days dedicated to classes, but here, at least in la Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP) you sometimes had to go like... 3-4 times per month for a single assignment, and like an hour or two/three. And there's "optional" assignments you can assign yourself to, to add more experience in your career. They're "optional" but you gotta do a minimum number of them by the end of your career. So it's like 4-5 assignments in a year, and you study at your own pace. The issue is passing the goddamn tests. Niggas get raped in exams here. If you fail ONE single exam you have to retake the entire assignment next year.>>16767284In some places, like my country, yes. It's designed like that. But in other countries med students have to actually be in the hospital and treat patients together with doctors, like the US I've heard.>>16767369LET'S FUCKING GO LOCO, here in some colleges the minimum to pass is 4/10. Getting anything over a 4 is a glorious victory, fucking enjoy it man. The most important thing is to just understand what you're studying and relearning it so that you don't forget it in the future. Also don't fucking abuse caffeine and tobacco like every med student does, try to end up alive by the end of your career.
You will never hate nurses more than if you have to work for a State Board of Nursing. They are dumb, entitled, and unable to follow basic instructions. That is all.
>>16767624You shouldn't have to finish residency to build a basic community practice with medical school knowledge.>inb4 that would make you incompetentThat's exactly my point. Med school used to train you to be a competent doctor in all fields out the gate without a need for further training, but now so many students don't give a shit about learning stuff beyond the test because "hurr durr I'm going to be specializing in pediatric neurocardiac surgery so why would I need to know OBGYN thoroughly" despite being given the information to actually be a decently competent basic provider. That's why I actually appreciate the UK pathway - EVERYBODY does the same foundation training after medical school and can be a competent GP straight out. For the US, it's a fetishization of being hyperultraspecialized that keeps Type A status-driven students idiots in anything beyond their specialty - which is why you have orthobros that can't even remember their fucking antibiotics beyond ancef or how to manage diabetes despite being "the top of their class">>16767720>you need a legal certificate that allows for you to treat patients, or else there's gonna be some REALLY BIG issues with the hospitalSo how do you know what you want to do as a specialty, or do you also go through the same GP process as the UK?Also que piensa en hacer un curso extranjero en Latinoamérica para 1 mes? Same reason why I wouldn't be a nurse. I can handle guts and blood no issue, I love that part, but the processed or unprocessed food makes my skin crawl.>que piensa en hacer un curso extranjero en Latinoamérica para 1 mes? Brasil quizás sea la mejor opción.>>16768530You should contact a surrogacy service in your country or ask doctors in related areas in your city. >>16768728It's a licensing problem actually - DPC exists. But we know which came first between the chicken and the egg, residencies were established for so long before insurance and current licensing regulations came into effect that it became the standard for licensing to have completed at least a year of residency to receive your license. You can ensure eugenics in an egalitarian fashion in the following way:You can do that by Ensuring chads & stacies breed with each other like wild rabbits while simultaneously donating their gametes to men and women in the bottom rung of the genetic ladder so that there's a sort of upward mobility for those at the bottom genetically speaking. Couple this with embryo screening and you can accelerate human evolution like mad. Such a system literally ensures a participation of all people in society because they know for a fact that their hardwork will be rewarded with genetic survival & genetic mobility and as a result you just have a lot more productive populace who inturn will have children better than them of their blood and so on. Guess you're too mentally dull to even think of this and perhaps you should be the first one to get castrated & worked to death for the overall good of the human species as your strategy is both retarded darwinistically & just downright evil.

Guess the only way you clowns will learn is by getting brutally cucked by a 6'8 stud with a 13 inch dong and forcing you to pay for child support of a bastard child that ain't yours
Will I be replaced with AI if I go into family medicine?
>>16770507probably not. jobs that can state their necessity to a law or regulation will be safer for longer. the law is slow to adapt, slow enough to get over the coming job apocalypse.
>>16770507within our lifetime? no
>>16770507Anything that involves a physical presence, it's probably cheaper to pay the person to do it than it is to pay for (or, if corpos have their way, rent) the robot, pay the guy who has to fix it and deal with customers defrauding the robot and pretending to be someone else to get medical care.
>>16770507If any, and I mean any healthcare job is automated within this century, there are much bigger problems than you losing your job we have to worry about
>>16770826At the point they're automating most jobs, I've got bad news: they're going to be instituting measures to ensure population decline, and they will most likely be ugly ones. If the mills can run with 2 people, why keep 200 in the town?
Is there an evolutionary basis for why taking a fat dump feels awesome? It's up there with having that first sip of beer with the boys.
>>16770872Anal stimulation.
>>16770873Am I gay
>>16770868Population decline is the opposite of what they want, the ultra rich will want a huge population of eternally consuming slaves
>>16770876Slightly. I mean, if you were born as a man, XY genes, you have a prostate. It can get stimulated when things enter or get out of your butt. It's like the male G-spot apparently. It's okay to be gay but in a subtle way.
>>16770887>XY genes, you have a prostateNot necessarily - androgen insensitivity?
>>16770895It's gonna be a different experience for everyone, I uh... I don't have a prostate, so I can't really tell you how it should feel for the average man to poop. But I've heard from friends that it's pleasurable until it's too big or it's too dry.Fiber, good water intake, and avoiding sitting for too long are crucial in your rectum and anus' health. Most men should be born with a prostate or else I don't know how they're supposed to reproduce.
>>16770899Androgen insensitivity means you have no internal male or female genitalia, but you have female external genitalia
>>16770900Then it's a simple answer, if you don't have a prostate then it wouldn't feel particularly different pooping. I'm speaking for the people who do possess a prostate. I personally don't know why some women like anal, I don't like it at all. It tends to be men who like anal if they feel like their partner's vagina isn't tight enough, I guess.
>>16770882If they automate everything, what will the slaves do to produce value? If they're paid to have money, who is paying the taxes to pay for them having money to pay for the luxuries the rich want the slaves to buy?
>>16770991Is this bait?
I've started forgetting stuff outside my specialty. Not even the niche stuff like ophthal etc.
>>16771124So...self-learn stuff to keep yourself sharp?
>>16771124literally what happens to everyone. who cares.
>>16771124Real talk, unless you work in both a specialized and general role, are you going to need to know shit outside of your specialty?I don't mean like if somebody comes in for an ass problem you'd recommend an ass doctor, I mean more specialized stuff like this symptom of the ass means this problem of the ass, most likely.
>>16769850>while simultaneously donating their gametes to men and women in the bottom rung of the genetic ladder so that there's a sort of upward mobility for those at the bottom genetically speakingWhy would we subject countless generations to suffer for the sake of your genetic ladder? Just do society a favor, keep those shitty genes to yourself and die, freak. Be glad you get to die peacefully at least, back in the day genetic dead ends would have just died in a war or from war/starvation, assuming your mother wouldn't just leave you in the forest to be eaten by wolves the moment she saw your malformed body. Count your blessings.>Such a system literally ensures a participation of all people in societyYou participate in society because you like participating in society. You're welcome to leave and live in the wild if that's your choice. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.>ur evilSpare me the spooks, loser. They are meant to keep rabble like you in line. Good to see it's working.
For me? It's looking at my phone
There's someone at my school posting on 4chan. I know this because I was using the school's wifi and I got hit with a ban meant for him. I think it's a first year since I've been freely posting until then.
>>16771923What was the ban for? What board or all boards?
apparently, low magnesium amplifies the negative side-effects of vitamin-D over-supplementation (or having too much of it in the blood/body) thoughts on this? do you agree or disagree?
How'd you figure out what speciality to go into. The quiz keeps giving me things I don't have much interest in besides Possibly Radiology.I have an interest in surgery mainly:>Neuro >Plastics>Trauma and Ortho (a few people assumed id be into this, whatever that means kek) >CardioBut I entered late and won't start speciality till like 31. So im not sure If surgery is the move. I just want something that's interesting, can earn big bucks, and can allow some mobility.
>>16772066>something interestingwell, which specialty do you find the most interesting?
>>16772082Very early into my med career, just finished pre clinical. I enjoy a lot of the MSK stuff the most, was more straightforward. But then I've been told that experience in the hospital is different, but the issue is for the more competitive specialities it's better to start early.
>>16760284>i start off understanding/empathetic, but if they dont listen to me after i try several different ways to explain something, i give up since it's not my problem anymore lol. just note in the chart they are retarded.not a med fag, but I've found this is good advice in general. They either learn their lesson after you've dumbed it down, or they're too retarded to be worth further associating with. No need for cruelty, just a respectful departing of ways
Is strabismus vastly more common among nurses than the general population?
>>16772102You wont really know what aspects of medicine appeal to you until some point during third year. I didnt know I hated clinic, now I do. I didnt know I hated rounding. Now I do. I didn't know I would enjoy the medicine aspect of medicine, now I do. I didn't know I would really enjoy the pace and culture of the ER. Etcetera. Every rotation I did, the parts I enjoyed were in EM and the parts I hated were not. I was between ortho and EM and realized that, if I was an orthopod, I would miss the medicine side and the ortho stuff wasn't enough. I enjoyed OB/GYN but knew I wouldn't enjoy the hospital side enough to make the clinic time worth it.I enjoyed outpatient Psych, but I wanted to do real medicine. I enjoyed the trauma resuscitation in surgery but I dont want to be a surgeon. Your experience will be different, pay attention to what you enjoy and see if you find a specialty that captures enough of the good to make the bad tolerable.
>>16760278I hurt my balls masturbating I went to the ER and the doctors there gave my balls an ultrasound and diagnosed me with varicocele on my left testicle and prescribed me liquid doxycycline 20 mls because it hurt and my leg and lower abdomen was tender. I am currently on the liquid doxycycline but the infection hasn't gone away and my balls have been hurting this whole time, before they were completely hurting, now they only really hurt if you touch them. My left testicle is swollen. I followed up with my primary care provider after the ER visit and he didn't prescribe me any new antibiotic when I run out of doxycycline and he referred me to a urologist. But I am like a week into taking my antibiotic and the infection in my balls has not gone away. I don't have the referral to the urologist yet. What should I do?
>>16772196Also, if I lose my balls I'm probably going to kms. I already can't cum anyway based on the last 2 times I masturbated and orgasmed.
>>16772200If you're concerned go back to the ER, we cannot and will not give medical advice in this thread because1) You have no idea who is or isn't a doctor2) even if we are a doctor, we are not your doctor and you have no follow up with us3) no physical, no reliable way to take a true history, no imaging, no labs4) if we did, people would come here instead of going to a doctorIf you're really worried, go back to the ER or schedule another appointment with your GP if you dont feel its an emergency.
>>16772200>>16772196Bro no one here is a doctor.
>>16772218:(
>>16771297I guess it's useful to discard false positives or negatives, or to correctly diagnose people if they come to develop a certain condition or illness. Mostly to differentiate on what to do, what NOT to do, who to derivate to, what to use... I imagine specialties like Infectious Disease might have to keep up on all the weirdest, niche'st knowledge because it's their specialty diagnosing very specific and hard to treat cases. It's good to know a decent amount of the basics of everything in case an emergency comes, or like for example if something related to neuro affected the heart, or kidneys with the heart, stuff like that. I'm not a doctor though.
>>16772196Giving advice is off limits but dude, go to the ER/doctor again, and stop masturbating for the time being. Varicose veins and inflammation of veins don't go away that quickly, maybe you might need surgery. It's common in varicocele for the left testicle to be more affected. It's probably swollen due to the nature of blood flow getting blocked in a blood-sensitive area.>>16772200I doubt you'll be unable to masturbate if you were to lose a testicle, I mean, but... It's not guaranteed you'll lose it over having varicocele. Let your dick rest dude.
>>16772235>It's not guaranteed you'll lose it over having varicocele. Let your dick rest dude.I could lose it over inflection though. And my testicles are infected.
>>16772231>A decent amount of the basicsHow basic, though?Because, 'basics' might be penetrable to laymen.
>>16772276infection*
What are some of the funniest insults you guys have received? I was once told that my mediocre ass didn't belong in medicine.
>>16772150i doubt it
What spec has the least amount of people with normie opinions? Is there a conspiracy spec?
>>16771923What an idiot. Imagine posting on school wifi.
>>16772321I was told that I was proof of the failure of the public education system.Ironically enough, it pissed off my coworker more than it did me. I don't know why. I usually get very offended when my intelligence is questioned (like an absolute retard, I admit it).
>>16772560Makes me think. Will I get in trouble for saying "I believe in flat earth" to patients? Let's say I believe everything else that's correct and it's just flat earth. If yes, could I get away with dome earth? I have intrusive thoughts some days that say 'Do it. Just say it.'.
>>16772562No one cares.
