If meditation is a magic bullet to depression, anxiety, and ADHD, why are doctors prescribing meth, instead?
>>
>>16774118
You just answered your own question.
>>
>>16774118
They don't want to have to sit there and train people how to meditate and the nuances of focus and applying it to all those different aspects of life when they can just give them meth, send them on their way, and charge them a reup fee every month for their entire life.
>>
>>16774118
Money
>>
>>16774118
It's not. Maybe if your entire mental condition is due to being an insecure faggot or just really, really sad it might work, but for people with real issues it's like trying to treat a severed arm with hugs and kisses.
>>
>>16774118
People are lazy and don't want to put in effort
>>
>>16774163
I'll take the fact that you're not using any medical terms that you're just making up nonsense.
>>
Because meditation and breath exercises are free.
>>
>>16774118
I first read the dhammapada when I was about 19 or 20. When I read it I knew there was a global conspiracy behind cucktianity because if there wasnt, what is in that book would be taught children in schools instead of stupid shit about kikes on a stick
>>
It won't FIX or compete with sleeping
It won't FIX OR compete with resistance training or cardio

Therefore its overstated. All its really competing with, is a afternoon nap, without any of the risks associated with that.
I'd like OP to not be a complete turbo faggot, and come back to the thread and refute this properly. Meditation is basically a meme, and the idea of "replacing sleep with meditation" has been a meme for over a century by this point, and has never been demonstrated.
>>
>>16774521
>It won't FIX OR compete with resistance training or cardio
Fix... resistance training? I don't get it.
As for competing, the effects of exercise are vastly overblown by mainstream junk science.
No one speaks up about the amount of academic pollution in medical journals in this area, because we've been conditioned into thinking exercise is healthy.
>>
>>16774118
Meditation isnt a magic bullet. Meditation of a certain type that teaches how to analyze your mind is a magic bullet. The key is "certain" kind. It has to be directed towards something and in some way.
>>
>>16774528
>the effects of exercise are vastly overblown by mainstream junk science.
And you do 30 minutes of cardio twice a week, right anon?
Lmao
>>
>>16774528
>Fix... resistance training?
You meditate to gain increased restitution. And sleep is the most important restitution. And exercise the 2nd most.
Without enough restitution, you lack the motivation to really exercise. Meditation won't fix that, or take the edge of malnutrition or vitamin poisoning ruining your sleep quality.
>>
>>16774534
I don't do any cardio that exceeds a simple walk. It's fundamentally detrimental for your health, since you increase your metabolic rate, which shortens your lifespan.
>>
>>16774537
=D
>>
>>16774118
Meditation takes hours. Meth takes seconds.
>>
>>16774547
Why would you do more than 50 breaths? That is like 10 minutes
>>
>>16774550
>10 minutes
Yeah, meth still sounds more efficient.
>>
>>16774118
>ADHD
it isnt, its just a beneficial self-treatment tool and generally healthy practice, in terms of helping ADHD symptoms it's completely incomparably impotent compared to even weak stimulants

t. ADHD haver that's tried almost half a hundred different "cures" pretty thoroughly
>>
>>16774118
literally weed cured my fucking ADHD more than the fucking antipsychotics they gave me. the constant buzzing thoughts are so quiet now.
>>
>>16774882
I wish that worked for me. I was prescribed medicinal cannabis for anxiety but I stopped feeling the effects after only like two weeks. I guess some people build a tolerance to it quite quickly.
>>
In Europe they won't give you meth lol
They will pretty much tell you to suck it up and charge your insurance
>>
>>16775132
yeah, If I'm jealous about on thing about the US it's how easy their doctors will throw drugs at them . Even getting diagnosed with ADHD is almost impossible at a certain age, or you have to pay for some elaborate tests out of your own pocket
>>
>>16775132
Europe is a third world continent. Something like 300K people per year die due to lack of access to AC in the summer. Its insanity.
>>
>>16774528
>the effects of exercise are vastly overblown by mainstream junk science
They aren't, i know from experience how much of an insane difference it makes to start running and doing calisthenics when you lived a totally inactive "sit-on-your-ass-all-day" lifestyle before. My mind is sharper, i have actual energy to do things, daily stressors barely affect me, "depression" is something i can't even recall the feeling of. I used to be a complete wreck a few years ago. Sedentarism is suicide and you're a cunt for promoting such a self-destructive lifestyle to others, even if by insinuation.
>>
>>16775156
This but with meditation.
I know from experience that jogging every single day for months on end doesn't change a single thing.
I was still as anxious and my mind was still as busy as when I started.
I even started to go the gym and bought myself weights, got myself to follow a schedule and a routine.
In the end, I realized that I was just distracting my mind with euphoric chemicals after a gruelling workout, the same way orgasming would.
It did not solve anything.

It was only when I started meditating that I started to appreciate life again and everything in my life fell into place.

>Sedentarism is suicide
What is "sedentarism"? You can go on walks without calling it exercise.
Show some papers if you're incapable arguing your own point.
>and you're a cunt for promoting such a self-destructive lifestyle to others
Lack of meditation is not just self-destructive, it's destructive to every single being around you.
>>
>>16775171
If thinking about the state of the world along with yourself makes you depressed, why would sitting down and thinking about the state of the world along with yourself for even longer make you undepressed?
>>
>>16775211
>why would sitting down and thinking about the state of the world along with yourself
If you don't know what meditation is, then this conversation is less fruitful than a simple Google search.
>>
>>16775225
Its just sitting down being alone with your thoughts, so if being with your thoughts about the world makes you depressed, how is being alone with your thoughts about the world while sitting going to make you undepressed?
>>
>>16775226
But this is not meditation? I'm honestly at a loss, why would you engage in a conversation about it if you don't care about knowing what it is?
>>
>>16774163
>you can't use meditation to help treat underlying causes!
Oh? How good are you at identifying your problems, anon? Did you think the guy giving you xanax had your best interests in mind?
>>
>>16775251
Except it is what it is and that is what google says it is, why would you assert it isn't when you can't even explain how that is wrong?
>>
>>16775259
If you actually would have googled it instead of stating your idea of the practice you would have known by now. The type of meditation you have in mind (Vipassana) is based on metacognition: You are with your thoughts, but from this basic fact, you can derive the following conclusion: There's you, and there is your thoughts. You aren't the same. Thus, you aren't a slave to your thoughts, you can observe them and let them go. This insight is not only quite pleasurable, but helps the individual overcome the mental health impairments it suffered from. This isn't really groundbreaking, as even in the western tradition, the stoics and mystics found this process to be healing and eudaimonic.
>>
>>16775273
>the type of meditation you have
I accept your concession, I was definitely describing meditation.

>You aren't the same. Thus, you aren't a slave to your thoughts
Point to where I said anything like that? I said you are with your thoughts which explicitly means you are not the same, but you still can't answer that if your thoughts tend to lead to bad feelings, why would being alone with them make you happy instead of keeping yourself active so you don't have to experience the bad way they make you feel?

>you can observe them and let them go.
Why would it make you happy to just give up on doing anything about the bad things that happen in the world, why wouldn't bad though just recur the next time bad things happen?
>>
>>16775286
Regarding your second point: This sentence isn't about your post, it's about the mindfulness meditation. For the rest of the post: Why don't you try it? I do sports, I roadbike and lift weights, I know how good it feels and that it helps with depression, I'm not the one who stated the opposite. But I also meditate, and I know that it helps as well. So, if you are interested in it, there is no harm in trying i with an online guide. It would give you more insight into the topic than 300 replies ever can.

>What is "sedentarism"? You can go on walks without calling it exercise.
Lmao what a shut in
