Why do psychedelics cause strange visions and thoughts? Is there any meaning behind it?
>>16775994>is there any meaning?Yes.>You have overloaded vital components in your brain. Please detox and try again later with a clear mind.
>>16775994You know there is more than one kind of psychedelic and they all have different effects right..?
>>16775994Im a neuropsychopharmacology midwit. For the visions:Since 5HT2A-agonists or partial agonists (e.g. 2C-B) kinda inhibit your visual processing, you're observing a more raw and uncalibrated version of (visual) input, where your brain is less able to see the set of all different things (note that observing someTHING already includes your brain's interpretation of raw visual data) and more likely to see the underlying "oneness", by which I mean nothing more than the bright spots of different colors in different shapes and sizes that raw visual data is (even colors are a human concept but that's beyond our scope here). Now close your eyes and rub them firmly. You will begin to see, albeit less colorful and alive, the exact same forms and abstract geometric figures that you see on psychedelics. So I suppose that the strange visions arise from inhibited visual processing that forces the brain into its "default visual mode" consisting, at least in humans, of those kinds of radially symmetric geometric forms. As for the thoughts, I would say that it follows a similar mechanism of disruption of the usual homeostasis in the brain that results in different brain activity for the same input. It has been proven that acute psychedelic usage increases connectivity between brain areas that are normally less connected
>>16776026this is basically it1. Brains ability to filter gets interrupted or modified2. Information from the eyes that is typically filtered out is read as 'real' by the brain3. Brain attempts to make sense of it4. ????5. HallucinationsThis image demonstrates what i mean, the pillars of faces are formed by natural imperfections of your visual system being read as real. The structure of the pillars are always present, your brain just filters them out like your optical blind spot.
>>16775994Look up akashic records.
>>16775994It's a definition. Substances that cause cause strange visions and thoughts are called psychedelics. That's it.
>>16776037That is an atomist answer, and therefore demonstrably wrong.
>>16776026>the exact same forms and abstract geometric figuresLolno, have you ever taken psychedelics? People wouldn't be going ape over something so trivial.
>>16775994Because it's a drug. It alters your brain. Now it may be fun or get you to think in different ways. But there is no real "wisdom" in it. Like one time I took MDMA and thought I uncovered the secrets to life. I was hype. I wrote it down and when sober it was random shit. But in the moment it appeared and felt profound. Trying to find meaning in psychedelics or being high is kind of a crapshoot. You may as well resort to horoscopes or trying to interpret your dreams. Have fun if you want to, and they are indeed fun, but understand their limits and don't mistake the sensation of mind blowing with it being a sincere and true revelation.
Is there any perceptual difference between tripping on psychedelics and dreaming? I have plenty of dreams in which there is no "self", for example, which is reminiscent of the "ego death" that I hear from people who use those drugs.
>>167759941. radios2. girls nobody likes using radios3. not your thoughts4. chemical imbalance5. too happy6. more associating different things or less7. the girl using the radio said so8. >>16776026 is an asshole9. you already thought you saw that10. seeing the shadow people can also happen when you are not on drugs11. what you are hearing is from the radios12. what you are seeing, half of it is from the radios and some of it is from your brain perceiving it differently because you are on drugs (this object looks very big, this light is now 2 colors)
>>16775994for the meaning: while tripping, you hallucinate and thats obviously due to the drugs interaction with your brain. the chemical and biological changes are different for every brain even if we take the same drug and exact same dose. your hallucinations will be specifically made by your brain, and while they can have shared features with other peoples' hallucinations, your hallucinations (and thoughts and feelings) will be unique and very dependant on your brains original structure. now here I would say that often times the hallucinations, thoughts and feelings that arise during a trip can mostly be categorized as scrambled notes(i.e "illuminations during trips are bogus" >>16780197), but every once in a while things align just so, that these notes make sense. I believe that is because the drugs interaction with the brain under specific circumstances allows us to see, think or feel 'solutions' to our day-to-day problems, solutions that are buried deep in our unique sub conscious (assuming some of our subconsciousness is projected onto said hallucinations). we all know that our sub consciousness contains a lot more information that what our conscious mind can remember and analyze, and under the assumption that the sub conscious can create ideas of its own, it could potentially imagine every possible scenario in the universe using the information it has. some of these scenarios could be solutions to our problems. it could be how to become less anxious, how to get a job we've been searching for a long time or even heal from an illness with no known cure. I believe the subconsciousness is incredibly powerful when it comes to create change, both in the body and mind, and it can align our life with our needs and goals, whatever they may be. we've all heard of people turning their lives around or having miracles happen to them after doing psychedelics or deep meditations, so who really knows?
>>16780009>People wouldn't be going ape over something so trivial.potheads would. it's kind of their signature actually
>>16776037the ??? part of it are excited layer 5 pyramidial neurons enforcing a top-down narrative structure. It lends credence to its usage in cults that don't emphasize an individual making their own structure of meaning.
>>16775994I have borderline aphantasia and have done hallucinogens a few times in my life, I did not hallucinate at least not how other people claim they do.My perceptions were altered, lights and colours looked different and sometimes boundaries were blurred but I never once saw something that wasnt real.I say this just because to me that proved there's not any real meaning to what normal people see on psychedelics, it's just the sensory area of their imagination that lets them imagine things vividly that I can't that is being altered and enhanced.
That story that everyone that took psychedelics tells about talking with some interdimensional dwarfs or entities or in general the same story they tell... I wonder if you take someone that has never heard that story, you give him psychedelics and if he would then have the same visions. For me everybody has that vision because everybody hears those kind of stories before taking the drug. I think the visions are just your thoughts becoming more real, like a very very lucid dream.
>>16783068I remember reading a journal article once, a long time ago, like think Limewire was still relevant time ago, that pretty much every group of humans has relatively common lilliputian hallucinations. In most cases the person realizes they are hallucinating, and invariably the lilliputians are devious in some way.
>>16780009>the exact same forms and abstracts geometric figures>albeit less colourful and alivereading helps. it's literally the same. ofc you'll even see faces and some kind of inner environment on high doses but they nonetheless consist of these geometric abstract patterns.>People wouldn't be going ape over something so trivialPsychedelics make people go ape over way less. Ever cried because of the imperfect beauty of a slug?
>>16780197I agree for the most part, like 99.999%.The annoying thing about people raving about their trips and insights is they bring nothing to the table."Oh man oh yeah everything is connected and I understood how the Universe works!"Really? So let's see some evidence of your amazing insights."Oh man no it doesn't work like that..."Right, now fuck off. But that is not to say every experience is worthless, just becasue some semi-literate moron wants a cool story so he can score a piece of some equally witless chick's ass. Its just any insights that result in tangible results are remarkably rare.
>>16783157>it's literally the sameYour acid must be weak or something. I can do transfiguration magic on high doses and walk through doorways I summoned into existence.>>16783179It really helps to have some kind of expertise before tripping if you hope to have any kind of revelation worth sharing.
>>16775994>Is there any meaning behind it?Depends entirely on what's hiding in the depths of you. For most people, the experience is just a series of brain farts. Some gain brilliant insights. A few transcend thoughts and visions altogether and reach something like advanced jhannic states - how meaningful that is depends on how meaningful you find the direct experience of raw reality once you snap out of it.
>>16783474>the direct experience of raw realityWhich means what exactly?
>>16783481>Which means what exactly? You have to be an imbecile to ask such a question.
>>16783481>you can't use abstractions to capture what's beyond/beneath all abstractions and send it over the internet?>too bad! that means it's literally nothingit's abstractions all the way down with midwits
>>16783487Just as I thought.See>>16783179>>"Oh man oh yeah everything is connected and I understood how the Universe works!"You stupid cunts are so predictable
>>16783500If you thought you were an imbecile, why did you choose to subject others to your imbecility?
>>16775994I assume the meaning is your brain making random connections at the neuron level and this having visual consequences
>>16783524You assume this because you're a biobot with no self-reflection.
>>16783531oh you seem to be really wise and know a lot about hallucinations, please enlighten us
>>16783535But I'm not talking about hallucinations or psychedelics. I'm talking about biobots and their lack of self-reflection. For example, when someone sentient starts off from "I assume that...", in a context where his assumptions are likely to be challenged, at some point he will ask himself "on what basis do I assume this?", realize there is no basis and rethink his post. A biobot will just go on without a hitch.
>>16783179it doesn't magically make you not retarded. but it can help make novel connections and get deeper insights that can and do lead to breakthroughs like discovering the double helix structure of DNA or developing PCR. its also no coincidence that microdosing became so popular in silicone valley
