>be me
>go for months at a time without brushing teeth - I think my record is around 14 months
>before dentist visit, floss + brush teeth + mouthwash
>dentist every time: "your teeth and gums look very healthy."
>this has been going on for over 20 years (I'm now 38)
I'm aware of about half a dozen other people with similar 'poor' habits and no problems.
I don't think this tiny number of cases necessarily means dental advice is bullshit, but the tedious brushing-twice-a-day thing might be overkill for some genetic profiles and/or dietary habits, surely? Conceivably, it might even be harmful.

Do you figure your distant ancestors were brushing their teeth twice a day and constantly going to Dentist Grug to have their tooth-holes stuffed with clay and their bad teeth knocked out with rocks?

You're not supposed to brush your teeth. It's 90% diet.

i usually brush every 2-3 days. seems to be ok. the only problems ive ever had came from eating high concentrations of sugar while traveling. For example, in Uzbekistan they absolutely love rock sugar and will sip tea while holding chunks of that shit in their mouths.

its also no surprise that nearly everyone you meet in Uzbekistan has lots of gold teeth.

>The predecessor of the toothbrush is the chew stick. Chew sticks were twigs with frayed ends used to brush the teeth while the other end was used as a toothpick. The earliest chew sticks were discovered in Sumer in southern Mesopotamia in 3500 BC, an Egyptian tomb dating from 3000 BC, and mentioned in Chinese records dating from 1600 BC.

Has more to do with diet and not having drool full of sugar dry on your teeth all night.

>It's 90% diet.
Nope it's 100% genes.
I'm 40.
Literally have the worst diet on the planet, outside the USA.
Just finished two pizzas btw
Abused heroin and meth for my 20s.
Heavy smoker.
Only brush a couple times per week before leaving the house.
In my 20s I never did.
Never been to a dentist in 20 years.
0 cavities, 32/32 teeth, no issues, whatsoever.
besides a bit of calculus on the back of some of my teeth.
I used to remove it with my nails when I was younger but don't bother anymore.
And yes my teeth are not perfect white from smoking and caffeine and not whitening them, but I don't trust whitening they literally file your teeth to achieve it.
Dentists are absolute psychos btw.
Stuff like "whitening" is part of why I don't trust them and also the reason I don't go is cause I don't trust them from childhood and teenage experiences.

>dentist every time: "your teeth are starting to deteriorate again" - shows me pictures of my teeth developing black-orange colors inside - "why are you not brushing your teeth like we said?"
>Fixes my teeth
>For the next year brush my teeth daily, visit dentist again
>You're not going to need treatment for bleeding gums for once. And your teeth look just like we left them last time!" - shows me pictures as proof - "you're brushing, aren't you?"
>Yup.

What are your eating/drinking habits like?
I suspect it would be harder to do that and avoid tooth damage if you're also consuming a lot of sugar, coffee, colas, wine, and so on
>>
>>16789852
it takes around 20-30 years for adult teeth to actually decay noticeably, by which point it'd be too late to fix easily. if you were able to afford a dentist you'd probably find out just how many cavities you've got going. brush your teeth properly one time, if they are a pale white closer to the gums you might be about to loose your teeth in 3-5 years.

Its 100% the bacteria colonising your mouth. You can get a probiotic with a strain which doesnt erode your teeth and get it to colonize your mouth.

Streptococcus salivarius K12 google it

I used to drink shit ton of sodas but I switched to diet the last couple of years
I take sugar with my coffee and always eat something sweet at the end of the day like icecream
>>
>>16791510
interesting. im sure you are right about genetics being important. my own teeth were always slightly yellow and they said it was strong enamel but who knows. im old. i think just keep the sugar down and clean them sometimes and youre good. if it hurts, flush with mouthwash to kill that shit. thats all i ever did.

you?
>>
>>16791534
yeah similar
I have also discovered that you need to change toothbrushes extremely frequently
like once a weak if you brush daily

brushing with a used toothbrush is extremely bad
my gums are sensitive and when the toothbrush has been used many times I can feel it

but brushing with a brand new toothbrush feels really good

I don't know the scientific explanation for this (accumulation of bacteria maybe?)
But I do know that you are better off not brushing at all, rather than brushing with a used toothbrush

Maybe that's why people are getting all these issues, while us infrequent brushers don't.

I pray some anon who is qualified to research this stuff, listens to a schizo such as myself and looks into it.
>>
>>16789852
basically if you don't have s. mutans bacteria in your mouth you don't get tooth decay
>>

>change toothbrushes extremely frequently

i flush them with boiling water. clean that shit out. i dont know....cant be much left after that i figure.
>But I do know that you are better off not brushing at all, rather than brushing with a used toothbrush

i;d know more about this. its all so ephemeral at this point.
i know exactly wehen my cavities stared and id like to know when others started if possible. for me it was always associated with sugar and sickness when i could not brush....

Is there any natural way to reduce discoloration of teeth? I drink lots of coffee and it makes my teeth offwhite.
My dentist also tells me my teeth are fine but I'm wondering if I can offset the effect of coffee somehow. He also tells me never to use whitening toothpaste, never asked him why but wondering if there's some food to eat or something that would help.

>>16789852
your water has high fluorine content and your diet is low sugar
>>

>not brushing your teeth or at least using a mouthwash in our plastic world
