>cut the shit out of my hand >bleeding won't stop >rinse wound with peroxide>go to ER for stitches>Doctor: ACKSHYALLY ur not supposed to use peroxide, it's wrong and bad because...because it just is ok!>you're supposed to use plain cold water and that's it >mfwIs this true? Are we really not supposed to use common and effective disinfectants to disinfect wounds? Am I really supposed to believe rinsing with tap water is adequate? What's going on here? Am I really just supposed to let a deep cut fester and let 'le professionals' handle the rest?
>>16790575Hydrogen peroxide directly kills the cells on the surface of the wound which worsens healing outcomes. What you want to do is buy sterile water or betadine and wash out the woundActually even better would be a wet-to-dry until granulation tissue comes in>t. did 2 weeks of plastic surgery followed by nursing a full-thickness road burn from retard drivers in my city nearly running me over on my bike with the wound care lessons I learned
>>16790575Considering just how smug and smarmy you are here when you're wrong, I think you ought to drink the hydrogen peroxide for good measure. The SDS hazard info on the side of the bottle is just fearmongering from le professionals. You know better, right?
>>16790575It would heal faster with nothing on it. It would heal even faster than that if you put urine, raw meat, or raw unheated honey on it
>>16790579what about rubbing alcohol
>>16791585>raw unheated honeyThis was actually a really fun one I saw on my internal medicine rotation. A guy was going out to the grocery store and rubbing raw honey on his right leg bypass site - the entire thing was so poorly taken care of that it developed a thick chunky yellow abscess down there and ended up costing his right leg below the knee Luckily he came to us for cellulitis of the left leg from stepping on shards of glass, so we were able to catch that horrible wound on his right leg in the ER>>16791586No for burns, or for already healing wounds. Maybe okay for initial wound cleaning as a once-over but it will dry out the wound bed so you need to rehydrate the wound with sterile water quickly - and of course cover the wound to keep a moist environment. But really avoid it as much as possible.
>>16790575Wow anon, you and your doctor are both pretty uneducated on wound care. You can get really S-tier disinfection doing PDT with zinc oxide plus iodine then following up with singlet oxygen. Your doctor probably doesn't even know what enzymes dissolve granulation tissue or how to use helichrysum italicum hydrolate or valproic acid for topical Yamanaka factor induction when peeling scars.
>>16790575Doctors dont know shit. It is known
>>16791594>I noticed you stepped on some glass>thank God you found us we need to cut off your other legUnironic doctor posting.
>>16791698I'm sure we could have tried sunlight and vitamin A exposure with shiatsu massage and any number of other bullshit therapies but we were kind of short on time ya know, what with his toes being necrotic on that side - this is AFTER doing a lot of washouts to try and save the graft and his foot

I was taught to rinse with water and apply betadine, but to skip the betadine if you require stitches.
