>Colossal Biosciences announced a major avian advance: the first long-term culture of pigeon primordial germ cells and gene-edited chicken surrogates that won’t make their own germ cells. Together, these unlock a practical route to dodo-like eggs and outline a five-to-seven-year path to seeing the bird return. The team has established a Nicobar pigeon colony, expanded avian genetics work, and convened the Mauritius Dodo Advisory Committee to plan conservation and rewilding.

>Colossal Biosciences said on Wednesday it has succeeded in growing pigeon primordial germ cells, precursor cells to sperm and eggs, for the first time. This is a “pivotal step” in bringing back the dodo, which was a type of pigeon, for the first time in more than 300 years, according to Colossal.

How are they going to make it viable? The only way I see is if they modify a surrogate Nicobar pigeons' embryos with those PGCs, let them mature, mate and then lay dodo eggs. This was only done with chickens of different breeds so far, but interspecies experiments are lacking. Am I missing something?

sure but will it work?

Probably not for a while. This is very new and not well developed

I anticipate this thinktank having a theranos-like revelation when the investors realize their billions are going nowhere. Standard nuclei transfer has never been achieved before in birds or other creatures with hard-shelled eggs so if this company is proving that they have an inventive method to do that it would be quite an accomplishment in of itself, aside from the dodos. Considering they lied about the dire wolf and brainlets ate it up I am betting they are full of shit.

Reminder that their wolves are genetic disasters with terrible overbites. They’ll be lucky if they can get an egg to hatch at all

Is there well preserved dodo DNA or are they just going to do the same bullshit like with dire wolves?

"Extinct" animals are hoaxes. Dinosaurs, mammoths, dodos, all fake.

With that kind of overbite, they should have had Matt Groening holding them.
>>
>>16793614
We arent "reviving" anything. We are taking pre-existing animals and modifying them to larp as an extinct species.
>>
>>16798373
Besides, there is no reason to revive any extinct species that wouldnt be beneficial to mankind and the environment.
