Mild vision impairment just reduces the distance at which one can read. 20/80 or better can survive just fine without vision correction. Lots of jobs for the last 10,000 years to today don't need distance vision and can survive by seeing colored blobs. Blind people can do useful work too.Disadvantages in evolution are not made extinct if it is survivable to the next generation.
