What is the current status? Any new research on this?
Nope. It still appears to be the case that [math]\Omega_0 = 1[/math] with the usual caveat on the error bars of the measurements. So if it's not 1 then it's very, very close to it. Fun fact, those measurements are how astronomers know that the universe is at least 300 times the current size of the observable universe, if it was smaller we'd have noticed the curvature.
