>you can't travel faster than light
ok, but this is a technical limitation, right? when technology advances FTL will be solved
>nooooo the laws of physics forbid it
but you guys told me that science could do anything, solve anything, and that we could become gods if we followed science.
>>
>>16809457
akshually FTL isn't making the spaceship itself to accelerate to such speeds, it's about warping the spacetime around the ship
>>
>>16809457
What a stupid fucking thread lmao.
Who told you that about science same retards like yourself but at the opposite side of the compass?
>>
>>16809457
When you understand WHY you can't go faster then light, you will know that this thread is stupid.
Building a wormhole is the most realistic way but even this will probably never happen.
>>
>>16809457
Laws of physics can never be broken. But they can often be sidestepped. Same will happen with speed of light. In more distant future, humanity will master mind uploading. Then uploaded transhumans will be immortal and able to travel at the speed of light, with the journey being instant from their point of view. Speed of light will be just a minor inconvenience to them.
>>
>>16809522
>OP talks about FASTER then light
>b...b... but we will travel at the speed of light...
And your example is stupid because the computer you're uploaded to would need to work at lightspeed too, not only the datatransfer.
Btw when i turn your mindputer off and 5years later on it will be instant for you too, because in your mindputer no time has past.
>>
>>16809519
But what's the why behind the why? Why do things have to obey the principle of relativity? Who is to say you can't alter what you believe are the fundamental principles of the universe?
>>
>>16809522
>Laws of physics can never be broken
Sure they can. A law is just a feature of a model. There is no reason to believe the universe always adheres to your simple little model of the time with no exceptions.
>>
>>16809529
mind uploads will travel as a laser beam, there will be no subjective time passing during their journey, it will be instant from their pov
>>
>>16809544
well, are there any examples in high energy quantum gravity models where general relativity breaks down in such a way that FTL is possible? I think maybe, but only at tiny time and space scales and extreme energies
>>
>>16809522
>Laws of physics can never be broken.
The law of thermodynamics in reference to the expansion of the universe defies said laws. The laws of entropy and transference of heat for example.

THE SPEED OF LIGHT!!!!!!!!!
>>
>>16809541
Because of the nature of particles. Why can't a helium atom can't hold 3000 electrons? Why can't you breathe underwater? Some things are just set in stone, deal with it.
>>
>>16809545
It's like a 500.000gigabit connection on a 40year old amiga... no matter how fast the datatransfer is, you still need the computation power to match the speed or you will get bottlenecked hard.
>>
>>16809564
Do you not believe there is a reason the electromagnetic field has the strenght it does? If you one day know the reason, why do you believe that we wouldn't be able to alter the properties of electron or electron-electron interactions such that a Helium atom could have 3000 electrons.
>>
>>16809564
you can breathe under water. it's called oxigen tanks and scuba diving suits. tje laws of physics said it was impossible for a human to breathe underwater and still humans didn't care and achieved it anyway
>>
>>16809465
depends on your definition of FTL. You're thinking of Alcubierre drives, tachions actually travel faster than light
>>
>>16809604
You're retarded

>>16809577
There are things you can't change because they are hardwriten into reality itself. Nothing with mass can travel faster then light. Cosmic backround radiation don't allows it. The faster you go, the more space gets shortened. This means the wavelenght of the backround radiation gets shortened too. When you reach the speed of light, the radiation becomes so hard that it basically becomes solid, impenetrable. You can't get through it. It's like trying to drive your car through a mountain. And no, you can't build a tunnel because the mountain is too hard to penetrate. The only way to reach your destination faster then light would be wormholes. But this is technically not traveling faster then light, it's a shortcut.

Nothing that interacts with the cosmic backround radiation can go faster then light. It's just a fact.
>>
>>16809664
>You're retarded
How so? Did I own you so much with my explanation that you got triggered and needed to ad hominem me?
>When you reach the speed of light, the radiation becomes so hard that it basically becomes solid, impenetrable
Is this trolling or just wildly uneducated? Cosmic radiation travels in all directions, because the universe doesn't have a center, so while some photons get blueshifted others get redshifted. In the end there wouldn't be much difference, because there's no preferred frame of reference in the universe. The photons in the CMB don't know the difference between speed 0 and speed v, since they travel at c
>>
You are looking at it the wrong way.
The correct way to look at it is that Time Dilation is caused by C as top speed, and not the other way around

Why?
Because once you start entering the reference frames, the compound vector products of the molecular motion work out like that. The argument is born out of how half-life is affected by temperature, logically reasoned out into math.... And is then later verified by time dilation on satellites vs earth's surface.
This alongside particle accelerators like CERN is the core argument. The argument isn't accelerating towards C costing energy, its the change in half life as the particle experiences time dilation.
>>
>>16809684
The direction doesn't matter at the speed of light because space gets shortened.
How do you travel back and forth when space becomes a single point?
>>
>>16809664
>handwritten into reality
That's the scientism way of saying "I don't understand, so God did it". There is no reason to believe the speed of light is fundamental and unchangable and written down by God. The "fundamental constants" probably derive their values from something more fundamental.
>>
>>16809700
Hardwritten, not handwritten. You read that wrong.

Some things can't be changed because when it could be changed, the universe couldn't exist. Quantum particles only can react in the way they do, or our universe would stop existing.

Maybe this is a bad comparison, but think about the higgs field and vaccuum decay. The only reason we exist is because the higgs field acts the way it is, would we change it, the consequence would be that the laws of physics would change and our reality would stop existing.

The moment you change the fundamental laws of physics, they stop existing. This means in our reality it's impossible to change them. If you do it anyways, it's not our reality anymore.
>>
>>16809457
jews say its completely impossible so that should be enough evidence to convince you its not.
>>
>>16809729
Pure scientism
