What books would you recommend for someone wanting to learn materials science, from beginner level books to more advanced ones?
>>16812027depends. what kind of materials (bio/polymers, crystals, etc.), and what kind of science (synthesis, computation, analysis)?basically, you should have an undergrad background in physics, with some emphasis on condensed matter topics, stat mech, quantum, and maybe e&m, and some understanding of the relevant chemistry. then actual "materials science" books and topics become accessible. wouldn't hurt to explore some group theory if you're doing crystallography.
