If there's one department that needs to be shuddered, its NASA.

Not even the CIA is as willfully deceptive as NASA is when it comes to defrauding the American taxpayer. At least glowies tell you the general idea of what the money is being used for.

NASA CONSTANTLY deceives the public, and has for decades, about what its actual missions are about and how money is being spent, which has absolutely nothing to do with searching for life or life's origins.

i have a thread as well.

NASA is a scam run by the geologists, its been run that way for 50 years.
The vast majority of the funding goes to studying rocks and how rocks form. This is not something the public would spend even 5 billion on if they knew what was being done.

Instead, every mission is somehow "LOOKING FOR LIFE ON X". Massive marketing campaigns. But the mission loadouts have nothing to do with life or finding life, none of the instrumentation is remotely suited for that purpose.

Its not "clever marketing" its just lying. They lie, constantly, to trick voters into awarding them money. The scale of it is so immense some of them really ought to be in jail.

Its exactly this attitude sort of cynical elite bullshit that they're up to which gave rise to people like Trump.

>>
>>16823914
Why do you need to lie to the taxpayer about it though?
I'm noticing a broader pattern: social scientists lie to the public about hominid subspecies because "they can't handle the truth" and do a heckin racism about it. Apparently geoscientists feel compelled to lie to the public as well. Same with bio-anythings inventing all sorts of dangerous shit for joe everyman to inject or pop and shave 10+ years off his life. Overunity fusion requires some kind of engineering that hasnt been figured out yet. Its possible the newer companies working on it will figure out fusion power, but I wouldnt hold my breath.

I am reasonably sure that theres fission powered spacecraft that are just not admitted to officially bc the general public wouldnt be comfortable knowing that nuclear powered spacecraft fly over their heads. It explains the UAPs.

Hilarious how true this is.
NASA's main focus for the past 30 years has been racing to see who can study [phenomena on another planet that will still be there 1000 years from now] first, rather than making any progress in the fields of space habitation, industry, or commerce.

It's a managed float rate, and historically they de-valuated or used a peg to dollar below the 'real' exchange rate, on purpose.
Unlike Japan the US can't force China to change the exchange rate (make the Yuan more valuable), that's why they're using punishment tariffs.

Most countries allow the rate to float, they only add some day-to-day method to smooth price changes (mobile float bands), but the XR is fixated by the market (that is influenced by trade and interest rate).
A country like China with high trade surplus may have interest in actively altering the balance to keep the Yuan stable.

>cultist rambling of a drone seduced by the fetish icon of NASA rather than what it actually is

You are mistaken.

Public money does not exist to satisfy the curiosity of a small group of cynical geologists who have exploited governmental inefficiency and bureaucracy to capture an agency.

Lying to the public is not acceptable when it comes to ends, not for a public agency.

Means, perhaps, in cases of national security. But not ends.

If geologists want to study rocks, they should form a foundation, not infiltrate and subvert a federal agency and trick the public into funding their curiosity project with lies.

This happens everywhere in the government, where tight knit interest groups for various causes or preoccupations capture money they ought not to have with deception/politicking. While its relatively prosaic as opposed to chud takes ("we really love rocks! " vs "we want to enslave humanity") it is still felt by many and the ultimate cause of Trump/anti-government sentiment.

I can't understate how much I wasn't expecting to agree with these two Anons: >>16823813 >>16823904 >>16824866

The issue with NASA is that while we all love a good "look at random inert space material": the sci-fi space research need to start at home. To me, the great strength of NASA was spending a lot of money doing something completely new that would otherwise be impossible for the private sector to do due to prohibitive cost and unclear profit motive. That they would go on to do some weird assignment, and in doing so; create a number of inventions, devices, that they would then make publicly available for people "figure out how to make improve their lives and make money off of." See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASA_spin-off_technologies

To contextualize this: NASA should be trying to Terraform the Salton Sea.
It's nice that they spent a brazillion USD getting those nice photos of those Cyanobacteria(?) fossils on Mars. Really, I appreciate that. I just think it would be more constructive, and more educational, spending 3 billion on making bad land into good land. It would at least teach us something new about ecology and biological systems. They can pretend it's Mars if it helps.
