>Before the cataclism that made the dinosaurs extinct the dinosaurs weren't going extinctwow thanks science, very cool
>>16825351Odin ("Dino") clearly disapproved of his creations' hedonistic lifestyles. It's a story as old as time itself.
im sorry your brain is too limited to understand the subtle difference between "thriving" and the inferred opposite claim of "they were already dying out anyway"
>>16825365are you retarded? if they were dying out then the asteroid would have been irrelevant.it's like if I stab a girl who just killed herself. I won't go to prison because she was already dead, I changed nothing
>>16825387Who's trying to change anything here? And those two ideas are not contradictory like you present: that's called a false dichotomy, creating a division that doesn't exist
>>16825458that's clearly edited
>>16825365Literally who believed the opposite claim besides contrarian scientists or people old enough to get confused by outdated theories like "the dinosaurs just got too big and farted too much or something"? If the dinosaurs were the dominant land vertebrates for over 150 MILLION years and the mammals at the time of the asteroid impact were small shrewlike creatures why the fuck would anyone think "hmm oh yeah those dinosaurs were totally on their way out anyways."? I'm not trying to be overly reductive, but I've literally never met a layperson who thought the dinosaurs were becoming weaker and then were finished off by the impact. It seems like one of those occasional cases of scientists being too caught up in the academic meta and pushing "interesting" but probably wrong theories just to publish.
>>16825387>stabs dead girl>waits for police>still waitingI want you to be my lab partner for the rest of the season.
>>16825727if all it takes is a random volcano summoning a mid asteroid to wipe out your species you were on the way out anyways, wimp
>>16825351They're replying to the idea that the Deccan Traps were already causing mass extinctions
>>16825351Hey, it's yet another claim about that asteroid that never actually happened!Chixulub "crater" is a fucking volcano. The biggest proponent of the asteroid theory spent his life and used his power to destroy the careers of anyone who questioned his pet theory.Until now it is just taken as gospel by a scientific community brow-beaten into compliance.
the dinosaurs might have been declining and the asteroid could have just finished them off in their declining state. This was a possibility, and apparently this is not what happened. This headline does make sense and it does give a better picture of how the dinosaurs were destroyed.
>>16826039nah the dinos were just smart enough to realize reptilians could never evolve more so they had to reincarnate into rats
