I’m trying to understand something about THC receptor saturation and tolerance.

Earlier tonight I smoked about 1.5 joints (0.35g each) of Afternoon Delight No. 4 (hybrid strain from Rye’s, Illinois) over ~40 minutes. I’m very high right now. at or near my limit.

What I’m wondering, from a scientific standpoint, is how there can be a “ceiling” to how high you can get. If CB1 receptors are already flooded with THC, does smoking something even stronger (say, an infused half-gram Blue Dream joint) actually push you past that? Or are my receptors already maxed out, meaning any additional THC would just prolong or worsen side effects rather than increase the “high”?

Basically is there a point where the brain physically can’t process more psychoactivity, no matter how much THC you add? Or can potency still matter even when you’re already blasted?

I'm not smart enough to answer. But I will say I'm jealous of you. I'm stuck being sober.

I recommend against thc, its schizomimetic and has hospitalized many people.

eat an 100mg edible on an empty stomach and you'll realize that you haven't hit your limit

I have smoked weed for 25 years, and edibles fuck with me hard. Like 20mg is too high for me. What really sealed it against edibles for me was making some myself. I made butter with an ounce and a half, ounce of weed, half ounce of vaporized leftovers. I ate one brownie and was high as fuck for almost 2 entire days. I felt like I needed to remind myself to breathe. It was terrible. I have no idea how strong they were to this day, but had to be in the 100+ mg range per brownie. I made them before but didn't eat one, just gave them out at Thanksgiving pretending they were regular brownies. My mother in law got "trapped" in her car in the driveway; it was unlocked. My wife's Aunt called in a panic and then literally called poison control directly after. In retrospect, this was probably a terrible thing to do. It was hilarious at the time.

As a non-neuroscientist the way I understand it is that THC is an agonist with a particular affinity (dissociation constant) which affects how intense of a high you feel. You can sort of imagine that the more THC you ingest there is a curve that begins to level out as no matter how much additional THC there is it cannot interact with the receptors any more due to the way they are limited by this affinity coefficient mentioned above. There are other research chemicals that exist that are also THC agonists but have a much higher affinity which allows you to feel much more high at a much lower dose, these were sold on the black market by names like spice or K-2. So in effect it's more of a diminishing returns which effectively limits how high weed can make you. Of course in reality it's much more complicated than this, but as a general overview it helps to understand what might be going on.

never slip people drugs without their knowledge, that's incredibly fucked up.

>like spice
this shit made me sad to learn about.
a long time ago a hospital pharmacist explained to me how she has to be regularly drug tested due to her role, and that while she loved weed, she couldn't smoke it. so instead she smoked sPiCe. i have no idea what mystery chemicals got sprayed on whatever unfortunate weed-look-alike plant people could find, and why anyone would put that gas station shit into their body willingly.
