Why can't we just clone this thing?
>>16833578even if we can, then what? you can resurrect a species with a single specimen
>>16833578because you don't live in a gay hollywood faggot soiyence fiction movie

>>16833585If you have 10,000 of these running around and you replenish the stock every so often do you even need females?
>>16833578Cells have DNAses and RNAses that break down nucleic acids. These are mostly in the cytosol ensuring mRNA turnover, and defense against viral DNA. The DNA in the nucleus is protected by the lipid bilayer. However, over time the nucleus and generally cell boundaries and compartmentalisation break down, and DNA disintegrates. Soft tissue may remain, but there will be little intact DNA. Still, there may be enough DNA in the bones to reconstruct a full genome. The problem with cloning is you also need an intact oocyte. We can't yet make those, and even if we could, we don't know what maternal mRNA it would contain. Maternal mRNA drives much of early development, and so without it, without knowing what was there in what concentration, there is no real way of recreating the process. We could use the egg of the nearest living relative, and insert the chromosomes, and we may get something similar, which could have eggs that have the correct maternal mRNA, which could lead to the next generation of clones to be more close to the original. So the question remains. Why the fuck would we do this, who would pay for it, and what retard would spend years of their life doing it?Pic not related.
>>16833677We're cloning. Breeding was never an option.Think, man!
>>16833585Yes. Just copy the x chromosome over twice. If the bird is male.If the bird is female and it will be more challenging, and a Y chromosome will have to be generated.
>>16833578The technology for cloning birds doesn’t exist yet. Laying eggs presents a bit of an issue for implanting a fertilised embryo into a surrogate
>>16833722>Why the fuck would we do this, who would pay for it, and what retard would spend years of their life doing it?With proper marketing, KFD could become an good investment for NBA players.
>>16833578Because no one will fund it. You can most likely use an emu egg and just replace all the placenta equivalent with donor tissue from a pigeon relative, and implant a dodo embryo into that (created from a pigeon ova with printed/cloned Dodo DNA).Imagine having these in your city instead of pigeons, woud be epic.
>>16833585Just sloppily copy it a bunch of times so you get genetic diversity.
>>16834166Plenty of people will fund it. It’s already happening with those colossal grifters who edited a few genes in a wolf and called it a dire wolf after stealing billions in funding
>>16833722>>16834166people fund all sorts of retarded things. this could be a one off like the sheep they cloned a while back
