what's /sci/'s take on it, like let's assume you already have a huge ass solar panel and generate a fuckton of energy and water is cheap and plentyful. what would you do with those settings?
>>
>>16848752
I would bulldoze all that crap and build a nuclear plant like a hwite man. Muh energy storage is only a "problem" because renewables are shit.

uranium-pilled

Hydrogen just isn't a very good fuel because of it's low energy per volume, difficulty of handling, cryogenics and bulky tanks. It's best suited for industrial applications because there the high costs of swapping to hydrogen may be overcome with the cost efficiency in the long term. Frankly there just aren't many things that can't be directly powered with electricity and where the storage requirements of hydrogen aren't immediately prohibitive. Global shipping may be one of those, day length power storage may also work with it something like that.

>(((studies show)))
*yawn*

>>16848768
good goy, take the uranium pill all the way
>>
>>16848767
what about something like a hydrogen dirt-bike to fuck around the country side besides your property? potential due to the soul a gas powered dirtbike has
chainsaw maybe?, I can see this being better off electric maybe
maybe even some kind of heavy work equipment like tractor, can also see this better electric

hmmm what utilities would make sense as self produced hydrogen fueled?
>>
>>16848752
Hard to store.
Hard to use in an engine.
Its molecules are too freakin' small!
>>
>>16849151
>Hard to store.
>Its molecules are too freakin' small!
I learned that on /sci/!
idk, perhaps they should find the solution so it somehow becomes viable, water + electricity = fuel is too attractive
>>
>>16849152
You could use hydride fuel storage maybe? Didnt Bob Lazar run his hydrogen powered Corvette using 6LiD?
>>
>>16849544
damn that sounds dope, further complicates the process but solves storage
how do you envision a single man, living in his own house with good and productive solar panels and cheap water, is hydrogen good for him, what does he use it for?
>>
>>16849544
No, he didn't. It was a jet engine.
>>
>>16848772
nuclear is the second safest form of energy
>>
>>16849152
you could tie the hydrogen atoms to carbon atoms to make storage easy
>>
>>16848752
I got all the hydrogen I'll ever need in the Sun already, Steve. Why would I ever need to make any more?
>>
>>16849985
This guy binds.

wat?
>>
>>16848774
which part of "hydrogen is a nightmare to store and transport" did you not understand?
you wanna tool around in the backcountry, you get yourself a diesel motorbike with a decent ECU and flash that with open source software so you can run it with whatever fuel you want, from redistilled moonshine to alfafa oil
>>
>>16850466
people here are proposing alternative ways to store it, see
>>16849985
>>16849544
as for transport... where? it's in your home
>>
What we need is an efficient way to extract CO2 from the atmoshpere, after that you can convert hydrogen to methane with little effort, and it's a lot easier to handle than hydrogen.
>>
>>16851466
Why not just use nitrogen to produce ammonia? It's easy to store and turns into liquid at a very low pressure.
>>
>>16848772
There are currently two working nuclear reactors in Israel.
>>
>>16848752
Hydrogen is ideally suited for chasing R&D contracts from congress critters and virtue signalling "philanthropists" because the results of any study will always be "More study is needed to make it work."
>>
>>16848752
Ah yes, hydrogen fuel, beloved by ignorant and retarded schizo fucks the world over.
The best part is when the issues are patiently explained, that yes it has some few small niche uses but it isn't generally viable as an energy replacement, their pig like eyes glaze over and the next day they are back to parroting how we could all be driving hydrogen cars and running our homes and industry on the stuff.
Honestly we need to build a giant automatic kicking device, force those dumb fuckers to bend over and give their dumb asses a solid kicking for a few hours. Every day. Along with flat earthers, moon hoaxers, evolution deniers, and every other loud mouthed stupid fuck on this planet. It will not make them any smarter but maybe they will learn to keep their stupid cunt mouths shut.
It would also make me feel better too.

Methane, can use already existing LNG infrastructure
Solar should continue to drop in cost, its roughly following moores law bc its semiconductor tech
