The reason we stopped making progress in Physics in the 1970s' is because the United States government made entire areas of Math and Physics highly classified and forbid anyone from sharing it. Anybody who got too close to discovering various things has either gone quiet or died. It really started in relation to the rapid progress physics was making toward antigravity technologies the US had retrieved from crash sites (as we are led to believe).

This has recently been mentioned by powerful government individuals in relation to Artificial Intelligence. You may notice a notable slowing in progress in the improvement of AI model releases from top labs. At the same time, though, they boast making generalized models that can get gold on the IMO and other top mind tests. OpenAI and Google and no doubt all the other labs have already been following this trend for at least half a year, where the divergence of quality and power between public models and internal models continues to grow exponentially. Do you think Trump gave OpenAI 500 billion dollars out of the kindness of his heart, or just purely out of a patriotic spirit? No, Trump is a businessman. If he gives an amount that high, he expects to get the golden eggs all to the government's self before it comes anywhere near public release, if it even gets that far at all.

Everywhere from the atom bomb, to antigravity vehicles, to arttificial intelligence, forbidden branches of math and physics are everywhere.

Look into it.

Also bump this thread cause everyone on this board should read this to understand why math and physics has seemed all but useless over the last 50 odd years. It hasn't been, it's just those who are truly successful in the fields are forced into clandestine knowledge farms that never see the light of day, or they die.

If you're referring to the fact that human progress is not perfectly exponential, this graph is obviously a smoothed out measure of historical progress. Here's a more accurate graph to appease your autistic hair-splitting.

If this still doesn't satisfy you, you can always use Google and look up "Human progress graph" and get waterboarded by a tsunami of all sorts of measurements and proof that you are wrong.

Have a nice day
>>
>>16849351
It depends on definition of progress I suppose. This doesn't change my grievance with your retarded prediction.
Humans stopped progressing ever since vaccines were invented. "Unexplainable" deaths will only keep increasing until humans are such dysgenic species that their only choice will be to forever be stuck dripfeeding mystery chemicals into their veins 24/7 until they run out of them or forget why they need this at all in the first place.

Ok dude lol, and agriculture was a mistake because more people died from having more food than they knew what to do with.

Look into genetic engineering and cutting edge immunology treatments and similar and tell me that vaccines (which have saved tens of millions of lives btw) were a mistake. We have already fixed "dysgenic people" by just fixing their genes. This has saved lives and allowed people to live completely normal lives. You would have never known they had issues otherwise, and this applies to all other sorts of medical issues.

Oh, by the way, we weren't just magically born way healthier back in the day because we had less life saving medical miracles, it's just that the majority of individuals died before they hit 18-30 throughout the majority of history. Survivorship Bias at play, and you fell for it just as an excuse to hate the world and its people that much more.

Ignoring you now, but don't worry, you get the privledge of having the last word and biting at my ankles like an ant, since that's the only thing you will ever be capable of. While you do that, I will continue to spread whitepills far faster than you can reflect your own self-disgust and shame and regret for your own life.

Go on, say something, anything. Prove me right.

Goodbye.

Yeah. All the low hanging fruit has been plucked and what remains costs too much for anyone with money to bother with determining independently. Unironically the easy cash of the digital economy has made investing in basic science just not worth it compared to the financial gains that can be obtained by doing HFT or collecting and selling customer data.

>we weren't just magically born way healthier back in the day because we had less life saving medical miracles, it's just that the majority of individuals died before they hit 18-30 throughout the majority of history
nta, just here to explain real quick: Humans WERE genetically predisposed towards better health (born healthier) back in the day precisely because of what you're talking about. If a population has 50% childhood mortality thanks to diseases, as some did, that means there's a constant and massive selective pressure for a well-functioning immune system, which is inevitably going to correlate with a variety of other desirable health traits, too. If that crucible gets taken away, what happens over time is that people who wouldn't have survived otherwise now reproduce and pass on their genes. Repeatedly. Over the course of many generations, mutational load builds up in the genes associated with immune system function and subsequent generations stray further and further, genetically, from being able to survive the harsh conditions present in prior times. Again, since genes for immune system function would be associated with having a well-functioning body in other ways (a well-functioning heart, cardiovascular system, brain, etc.), this means that people will become genetically less healthy in many respects more and more so the longer this goes on.

This isn't to say that our species can't overcome this with techology, but merely that people of the past unequivocally WERE genetically healthier on average, and we're not able to fix all of their dysgenic traits just by dealing with the immune system ones, btw. Mutational load inferentially contributes to mental illness and lower genetic intelligence, since something like 83% of genes are in some way implicated in the functioning of the brain and immune system-related genes are bound to have some overlap with that, as well as probably poorer genetic potential for vigour.

Dude any city dweller's immune system mogs the fuck out of ancient man's immune system and it's not even close.
Living in such high concentrations next to so many animals has exposed us to diseases primitive man could have only ever imagined, and if you put a modern human next to the primitive man, the primitive man would be plagued just as the native americans were.
>>
>>16849321
I don't think people who make these kind of claims appreciate
a) Just how nigh impossible it would be to keep something as fundamental as basic laws of physics "classified".
b) Just how shit our government is at keeping shit classified.
>>
>>16850290
You're not understanding. This is about being "born healthier"; the subject here is genetics. Greater environmental exposure to diseases will improve a single person's immune system function (when it doesn't kill them), vaccination will also. But in order for people to become more GENETICALLY healthy as a result, there needs to be selective pressure, meaning: People need to succeed or fail to pass on their genes based on whether their immune system is able to handle these new environmental challenges. Since about 1800, childhood mortality has gone down from ~50% to less than 1%, in large part because of modern medicine and vaccination. As in: People have NOT had their ability to pass on their genes influenced by whether their immune systems are able to handle these challenges; modern medicine handles these challenges for them. The selective pressures which industrialization and greater population density would otherwise bring about did not have much opportunity to confer genetic benefit. as the people who would have been killed by that more trying crucible survived anyway.
>>
>>16850335
Now, this only accounts for changes in genetic immune system quality in the last few hundred years (and primarily for those in the west, at that); humans have been living among livestock and in densely populated areas for much longer, so it's harder to say if a modern person's immune system is genetically worse than that of tribal peoples who don't practice animal husbandry. Could the improvements to genetic immune system function conferred by thousand of years of living in relatively high density human environments with lots of animals around have been so great that even after several generations of having immune system selective pressures effectively shut off modern man is still more genetically immuno-functional than tribal man? It's possible, but ~50% to <1% childhood mortality is a very precipitous drop in selective pressure while ~200 years is plently of reproductive cycles, so it seems very unlikely.

and the most active "physics" thread on the board right now is about ether crackpottery >>16838059
/sci/ always had schizos but these days there are barely any on-topic posts left. And most of them are by undergrad shitters asking for book recs, fighting over introductory books (which analysis book is better, etc. instead of just moving on and actually learning math), or crying about failing college.
I know this may be a foreign concept to these newfag schizos, but we used to actually have somewhat of a mathematics and physics community back in the day. Even just a few years ago, you still had a sizeable amount following the latest news in math and physics research, but when Gaitsgory and others finally proved the unramified Geometric Langlands Conjecture last year, nobody here gave a fuck. I bet 95% of people in this thread don't even know who Gaitsgory, Drin'feld, Bernstein, Kazhdan, Arinkin, etc. are nor what Langlands is. It's absolutely depressing

No doubt about that, even with an algebraic geometry background you'd have to at least read through Gaitsgory-Rozenblyum, which is 1000 pages of very dense higher algebra.
I didn't expect technical discussions on it either, but not even being aware of its proof (no mention of Gaitsgory and other at all, in fact) is quite emblematic of the state of this board. We used to have on-topic threads on TQFTs, now, the average person here can't even do basic differential geometry.

So, I can indeed point to one particular scientific breakthrough (actually a couple) that almost assuredly evolved into a high classified project in the late 90's through early 2000's. When you have Nobel Prize winning science that just happens to be...
>Funded directly by the Office of Naval Research
>Results in zero patents for the university or researchers despite having metric shitloads of commercial applications, particularly in photonic computing and telecommunications
>Has graduate students literally working for defense contractors who are paying for their graduate work
>Said graduate student is now a Vice President at his glownigger employer in quantum information systems
>Team leader gets appointed to some bullshit defense science research council
>Never heard from in public about her work ever again
It definitely does happen.

Doesn't matter. It was all superdetermined already, after all. Superdetminism über alles. No one has the ability to decide which experiment to perform, or when to perform them, so scientific progress can be nothing more than (superdeterministic) stamp collecting. Only when this Unquestionable Gospel of secular Ghazi Bell and secular Grand Mufti Einstein are fully appreciated, together with complete and total destruction of the Copenhagen Infidels, will all of society's problems be solved. Superdeterministically, of course.
