Neuralink implantation is futuristic sci-fi.
A needle much thinner than a human hair "sews" 128 eight-channel electrodes directly onto the surface of the brain:

you're several months behind, it failed because scarring in the insertion area leads to the device becoming increasingly less resopnsive over time, with the first subjects giving only 85% the initial response “nearly 870 of the 1,024 electrodes … are no longer working as they should” — i.e. roughly 85% failure, luckily the original scientist who worked with neurolink and left is having more success with using in brain electrodes

well it's still *in head* I guess just not in brain, more like on top of it, but they've been able to set up 4,000 electrodes in one patient, which is a world record apparently

I was remarking at the engineering achievement of sewing electrodes into brain tissue, if they have a high failure rate that's a separate issue that needs to be resolved.
>>
>>16863059
it doesn't work, that's not a seperate issue its a core issue, the body won't accept this type of implant and neuralink hasn't addresed it being an issue at all

I will start with 3 of those implanted on elon and all his children, they'll be wearing them for 15 years, no biggie

Its a bad idea for many dozens of reasons and also probably not necessary.

The next generation of interface devices is AR goggles with touch capacitive control via skin contact eeg. Can likely scale down emotiv tech. No need for invasive surgery. Other than for people who are crippled.

You're the one who's several months behind.
They were able to fix the issue with thread retraction on future patients, they were able to compensate for the detachments in the original patient and they have over 13 patients now.

Has anyone else seen this bone conduction word telepathy before? This sounds utterly bizzare, and the is a brand new article from Nov are we going to see this incorporated into the new brain interface type devices going forward?

Also as someone with actual telepathy... it kinda sucks.
>>
i don't want needles in my brain
but i would love a hat or headband that gives me full mental control of keyboard and mouse functions

That will never happen. Too much noise outside of your brain.
Not to mention the idea itself is stupid because you would have to maintain way more focus to type anything and prevent random thoughts from interfering.
>>
>>16863052
this has been known to happen with any kind of rigid electrode for years
it's completely predictable
the only new thing about this nooralink development is they stitched 128 of them together
unfortunately 128x one shitty electrode is still not enough to do jack shit, and they still INEVITABLY scarify and become dangerous to the unfortunate host

Yep, they use mental patterns of gestures as commands. But noise is a fixable problem?

I used to think replies like this were bait but I met people like this and he’s serious. This person is so desperate to appear smart and knowledgeable that he doesn’t understand how to have a simple conversation. This board is filled to the brim with this kind of guy.
Op, I think l it’s really cool too!
