What is the purpose of dreaming?Isn't it a waste of energy evolutionarily speaking?

All species sleep and some of them dream. Without sleep human eventually dies. That's all I know.
>>16869891To receive gods message
>>16869903yes actually
>>16869891As a random idea, it's a way for your consciousness to stay working while disconnected from body control. Body does its sleep-related things and consciousness is running in a "virtual machine", ready to wake up in case of emergency. It can't be done 100% of the time due to some sleep-related things but it's done when possible giving you more time to react to night bears.
>>16869891Not everything must have a purpose, what is really needed is to not be harmful for survival.Dreaming has no ill effect compared to general sleeping and doesn't consume more energy. As far as we know it's a random thing.
>>16869930>Not everything must have a purpose, what is really needed is to not be harmful for survival.Public education produces the dumbest possible golems and should be banned.
>>16869939You conflate "cause" with "purpose". Common anthrocentric misconception.Less ape, more moss. Next time.
>>16869930>Not everything must have a purposeThrough the process of time, anything that does not have a purpose or place is eliminated. Alternatively, they simply do not originate at all, as everything demands a past in order to exist. Everything must identify itself in order to exist; otherwise, it would not exist.[math]a = a[/math]This is basic logic, anon.https://everything.explained.today/Law_of_identity/
>>16869946I'm not conflating anything with anything else, just noting you were born an idiot but then made an imbecile. "Conflating" isn't a word you're ever going to utilize correctly and you shouldn't have been taught it.
>>16869946...we are evolved beings. Of course, everything we have has or had a purpose in survival. We didn't fall from the sky from a magical realm.
>>16869952>i most certainly did not erroniously merge two sets of ideas, or opinions, into oneHysterical.
>>16869955>random walks always finds the global minimumHoly fucking shit, it's retarded.
>>16869964You have some kind of delusional mental illness. Quote the part where I conflate anything. Are the voices getting louder?
>>16869969Yep, you're definitely hearing voices. Why does this board attract mainly 80 IQ schizophrenics?
>>16869972See >>16869939.>>16869975>damn, i don't understand that one eitherKek. Twice in one thread.
>>16869978Notice how your raging psychotic illness makes you think you quoted something in a post where you quoted nothing. You're a poster boy for dysgenics.
>>16869980>bitch hurt my feelings Aww.
>>16869939>>16869952>>16869955Is this board negative IQ? Natural selection just means destroying anything that gets in the way of reproduction and nothing else.
>>16869985>Natural selection just means destroying anything that gets in the way of reproduction and nothing else.
>>16869985>in purpose to aid reproduction does not mean a purpose>because, a purpose must be economically necessity, not a biological one
>>16869987Consider slitting your throat any day now.
>Consider slitting your throat any day now.Public "education" was a mistake.
>>16869990>>in purpose to aid reproduction does not mean a purposeNo, I mean that whatever doesn't get selected out doesn't mean it is necessarily "useful". >>because, a purpose must be economically necessity, not a biological oneWhat is "economically viable" is not necessarily always selected for. >>16869992Kill yourself basedjak posting tranny mongrel filth.
>>16869985Very conflationary thinking.
>whatever doesn't get selected out doesn't mean it is necessarily "useful"I wonder if this inbred cretin even remembers what the thread is about, or had any awareness of it to begin with.
>>16870024You are low IQ.
>>16870022You're just saying words. Explain what you mean.
>>16870044Goddamn you are fucking idiot. >>16869964
>>16870047>replies to a random person
>>16870035Notice how the inbred cretin can't answer the question. It's probably the first time it became aware there was an actual subject to the thread beyond his trigger words ('evolutionary', 'purpose').
/sci/ grade discussionsMeanwhile I'm ill and has nothing to do, so I'll entertain you with AI slop
>>16870048>damn, i got nuthin.
>>16870080Fake, gay and unacceptable.
>>16869891One theory I’ve seen that makes sense to me is that dreams are useful by putting you in situations that you might encounter or to train your responses to the stimuli. Like if you have a dream about being around a bunch of snakes, how do you react in the dream? Then when you wake up you can reflect on this. They’re basically simulations.
to burn off stresses and generally disorganized energy acquired during the daywith more coherent energy, dreams are minimal
>>16869939anon is right though, not everything needs a purpose it just needs to be good enough in the eyes of evolution, and sometimes a trait becomes useful even though it was "created" for some other purpose entirely, like crying
A simple example could be red hair. It's just a random mutation. Serves any purpose? Not that we know of, but since it happened in northern regions were skin was already pale and the sun weak it wasn't really harmful and it just stuck.
>>16870322Yep makes sense. Same reason animals play.
>>16869891Consciousness is a system of the body of an animal, like the immune system, circulatory system, or any other system in an organism. Dreams are a component of this system's inner workings and are evidence of the health and functionality of a conscious system. In fact, I think dreams should be categorized, studied, and used to measure the health of a conscious system, like measuring blood-pressure or white blood cell count.Evolutionarily speaking, dreams likely co-evolved with consciousness and are a necessary component for consciousness's evolution.
>>16869891Dreaming is like an elephant (the mind) without a rider(body sensors). When the mind is disconnected, it roams
>>16869891side-effect of brain defragmenting
>>16869949That just means when comparing something to itself it's the same thing as itself. It has nothing to do with time.>>16869985Their mind is stuck on if it's profitable or not in the modern sense, like for a company, not if it's beneficial for survival. It's a bit reddit brained. It's so strange. All the censorship here must be making people stupid.
>>16869992Do they still censor onions? For some reason I thought they stopped.
>>16869985that's what public education wants you to believe. if it's the truth we don't know, but try to explain what even is life
>>16871251If "public education" says 1+1=2, that doesn't mean it's wrong.
