The person who wanted in, likely because they saw it as a place full of goodies, got angry at him for his refusal and killed him. In doorman type buildings, residents typically don't have to deal with people trying to infiltrate the building. There's more buffer space in which the doorman operates so conflict is lower and not directed at the residents.
