Recently found out that many recyclables are just dumped in general landfill anyway. Those which aren't are usually made into some second grade material which immediately goes back out into the environment and can not be recycled again.
Meanwhile we have three different trucks bumping up our street on different days to collect general waste and the recyclables, spewing out diesel fumes everywhere.
Then I look at the mind blowing amount of rubbish that countries like India and China just burn, bury, or dump into the rivers which are carried out into the world's oceans.

And I think what the fuck is the point of this? Given absolute power I would just simply tax the ever loving fuck out of all unnecessary packaging, plastics, and crap, so people would only buy those products as a last resort. Or just ban it full stop.

Anyway I recently got a black mark from the council becasue some lowlife put a recyclable plastic drink bottle in my general waste wheelie bin. Two more black marks and I get a fine. Great, now I have to put out my wheelie bin at the last possible minute before the truck comes.
Look, fuck this bullshit. Separating and having to put out three different bins on three different days is a pain. I didn't mind doing it but now I just cant be fucked. I waste my precious time while Chang and Pajeet carelessly dump a thousand million times more crap into the oceans every day.

I thought about my black mark and concluded that the council must occasionally inspect the contents of my bins. Well fuck. Lets see, minimum wage council workers doing a filthy job will only do the bare minimum and only pick out the cleanest and easiest errors. Okay, so now I put ALL my plastics, glass, paper, and cans into the bottom of the general waste rubbish bags ( which are plastic, lol ). Then I urinate in it and add cat's poo. Tie it off and into the bin it goes to ferment until collection. Can't see those council workers wanting to sort through that. Fuck it all.
>>
You only have three trucks per week?
We have five. Three different companies pick up green waste. Another one does the recycling bins. Two companies deal with general waste. Then if you have anything outside of those, like concrete and treated timber you need to get a skip or take it yourself to the landfill.
Recycling is dumb meme thought up by dumb Karens for validation points. Makes me laugh to see all the dumb assholes religious put out their kerb collections like Jesus come to cleanse the temple. Bins full of shit they didn't need or which could have used reusable containers. Then they hop in their gas guzzlers ( usually only one person per vehicle ), idle in the driveway for ten minutes and make a dozen trips around town doing dumb shit and buying dumb shit ( with packaging inside more packaging ). Then they come home, mow their urban deserts down to a fraction of inch, plant their exotic gardens, and feed kitty who is still hungry after killing another native bird. Then they eat dinner consisting of packaged food grown on soil so badly degraded it would produce nothing without copious inputs.
Then they go on plebbit and virtue signal about the environment. Honestly I wish climate change would happen fast enough to wipe these stupid monkeys out.

I have a solution and I can you ideologically polarized individuals like yourself to get it rolling.

In short the homeless must capture the upstream value chain. Instead of getting a nickel off a plastic bottle they should make diesel out of it and heat their tent cities. Instead of rummaging bike parts to sell on kajiji, they should scrap some bikes out of lost parts and compete with lime scooter on bike rentals (electric too if they can repurpose the disposable vapes into battery banks)
>>
Most of recycling is just a sop. There are much more efficient systems available which would reduce most of the waste before its even created. But the problem is these alternatives are not so convenient to consumers, are more time intensive or cost more. People just want the cheapest easiest option and dont want to think past what they leave out on the street. Current recycling strategy is just a nod to the weekend environmentalists and so the normies can feel good about themselves
>>
>>16897702
It's to keep the economy going. Entire infrastructures and tens of thousands of jobs exist to shuttle plastic trash around before handing it off to a chinese "recycler" to dump in the pacific ocean.

>I recently got a black mark from the council becasue some lowlife put a recyclable plastic drink bottle in my general waste wheelie bin. Two more black marks and I get a fine.
Mandatory recycling programs like that are dumb as shit.

Here's something that California surprisingly has the right idea on, it's called CRV:
>additional fee tacked on to all recyclable drink containers
>depends on the size and material used*
>*in practice, it's just 5 cents for most containers, 10 for larger ones.
>you may deposit these containers at your local recycling center and receive that money back as compensation

Recycling remains optional. You don't have some government geek sifting through your trash looking for a reason to fine you. But there is still incentive to recycle. Hell, you can recycle other people's trash which has become a source of revenue for the homeless.

Perhaps numbers and implementation can be adjusted but it's actually not a terrible idea in theory.

Ofc this is ignoring all the other issues with recycling mentioned in your post. The response I would give to that is "any level of reusability is still a net benefit even if it still ends up in the landfill later on."

>You don't have some government geek sifting through your trash looking for a reason to fine you
actully! we do. my sister in law did not have a recycle bin, when they asked for one they were just throwing whatever in it. someone came around and inspected their recycle bin or the driver of the truck reported them (they have cameras in the trucks).

I have ways around this.

it makes liberals feed good. do not question it, or they will act up. and that could result in A CIVIL WAR!

That must be a local ordinance.
In my time living there I was never required to have a dedicated recycling bin. Trash came once a week to empty my dumpster and that was the end of it. If I wanted my recycling dealt with separately then I go to the recycling center like all the bums do.

Regardless, putting trash in a dedicated recycling bin is a different story from putting recyclables in the trash for a host of reasons.
>>
>>16897936
>additional fee tacked on to all recyclable drink containers
we did something like that here, now the homeless people dump the contents of literally all public trashcans on the ground.

I will now state the 1st law of Cuntology.
"No matter where you go, no matter what you do, there is always some cunt who will fuck things up for you"
That explains why the world is such a mess, why we cant have nice things, why there are so many laws and regulations. Simply becasue there is always a small number of cunts who will always fuck things up for everyone else.
>>
Recycling is a pain and really doesn't achieve much once you account for all the inputs needed. OP brings up a good point about all the trucks needed.
Other than the time and inconvenience my biggest gripe is the space required. Living in a small apartment I dont have space to keep separate bins for each recyclable class. I dont actually consume that much in the way of products so it may take months to a year to actually fill a bin. So what I do is just fill up one bag with all the different shit, go for a walk to the park and dump it in one of the park rubbish bins.
The park bins are always full of pizza boxes, burger wrappers, dog poo bags, plastic drink bottles, and few glass bottles. Stuffed every day. A park guy told me it all goes to landfill because its often full of shit like used needles, empty drug bags, and lots of dog poo. They are emptied every day.
Our park has 8 bins. One bin is about what I produce in 3 months, so I dont feel bad about doing this.
Fuck anyone who says "every little bit counts". What a retarded cope. How about just stop consuming so much crap instead?
>>
>>16897702
Its magnitudes of insignificance.
Its an insignificant percentage of the world population making an insignificant effort to achieve an insignificant return on a marginal activity.
Meanwhile everyday another wetland gets drained, another container ship of Chinese crap arrives in port, another billion people make another pointless trip in their car, another million economic migrants arrive to push up demand for more housing developments.
Its like burning a candle under a terracotta pot to save electricity and thinking you are saving the planet, lol. It would be comedic but that's actually how the retards think. Nah mate, we are fucked. The world is full of ignorant selfish retards led by greedy retarded cunts. Nothing short of a J curve is going to save this place. Hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later.
>>
>>16897702
It's probably made from oil; when energy resources end, it would make the whole situation void anyway.
>>
>>16897702
Even if that's true, and it's probably not, it's a useful way to get people to stay mindful of the garbage they're generating
>>
Recycling is counter productive. Its lets people think they are doing something useful rather than address the larger problem.
>>
>>16897702
Dont you know that all those plastic wrappers you put out in the bin are going to make up for everything else! Are you stupid? EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS! Now keep on absorbing those microplastics and shut up!
>>
recycling is mostly just political theater; the point is to LOOK like you're doing something, not actually to do anything.
The only form of recycling that's actually worth the effort is non-ferrous metal recycling. The rest of it is bullshit
>>
>>16900475
Truth, but dumbfucks like >>16898758 will always be in denial.
>>
>>16898758
i think that's true in japan where garbage sorting is so annoying you think twice before buying something just to consider if it's worth the hassle of getting rid of it

>>16900475
in germany, plastic bottles are usually shredded or downcycled
glass botttles are cleaned and re-used
>>
>>16900475
>is mostly just political theater
Thats true of almost all things in life. Appearance of good triumps over actual good. Both political sides are like this too for range of topics, ideological capture is truly insanity imo.
>>
>>16898758

No one is "generating garbage". Ontologically, reality is nothing but garbage, and it attempts to sanitize itself by relegating its garbage to the Subject, who must return the gift in full. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
>>
>>16897702
>And I think what the fuck is the point of this
Some rich mf is getting richer off it, and your neighboring Karen gets an excuse for believing that she's better than everyone around her.

>Given absolute power I would just simply tax the ever loving fuck out of all unnecessary packaging, plastics, and crap
With absolute power come absolute tapes of you having sex with female minors, held by people who don't want you tax the shit out of their business.

>Two more black marks and I get a fine.
None of those is a law, you can tell HOA/township council/etc to pound sand and absolutely get away with it if you didn't sign any papers obliging you to swallow their cum. If you did then you can only blame yourself.
>>
>>16897702
No it isn't retard. Cardboard and aluminum should be recycled. Aluminum should be recycled so beer is cheaper. Cardboard should be recycled so your amazon purchases are cheaper. Glass recycling is sort of a meme. Plastic doesn't recycle.
>>
>>16898719
The real solutions are so fucking obvious but ignored.
Population. Decrease it.
Consumption. Decrease it.
That's all.
Oh yeah, you could add all the bells and whistles. Like banning products that can not be fixed. Banning products that could have, but dont have, a working life of over 20 years. Banning products made of plastic where an alternative exist. You could make a comprehensive list of things each of which in their own way helps, but the two main drivers of pollution, resource depletion, and waste are population and consumption rates.
>Nothing short of a J curve is going to save this place
What we dont do voluntarily will be forced upon us. Its obvious by now that it will be forced upon us as a natural consequence.
Personally I am fine with this, nothing would make me happier than to see all the dumb assholes finally get what they deserve.

>be teenager
>be ardent environmentalist
>used to go out plants trees, restore natural habitats, clean up trash, and recycle of course.
>active in local environmental groups, forums.
>get older and see many of my fellow environmentalists were fake, stupid, narrow minded, ineffectual.
>witness years of hard won environmental battles undone by a stoke of a pen by some politician
>witness habitat restoration I participated in get developed into another housing zone.
>because some bureaucrat said so, suspect bribes were made, that's all it take to undo the massive efforts of environmentalists over many years.
>in my 30's now, see things get worse, not better.
>realize true change can only be achieved politically at the highest level
>realize that the general population is too stupid, too apathetic, and the democratic system is too inefficient, too weak, too easily manipulated
>Discover Pentti Linkola, my God, he made a lot of sense, yet people called him an extremist, a fascist, and other slurs, the same people who would then turn around and say we are in a battle for survival, but all they do is wring their hands and buy Greenpeace merchandise, at best attend protests which achieve nothing, the stupid cunts.

Fast forward to today. I just dont care anymore. I have no hope. Besides most of the damage is already done. I am content to watch the world burn. We deserve it. So fuck your recycling, go on, build another suburb. Burn your tyres. Buy your one use crap. Cut whatever old growth forests remain down for some more palm oil or antibiotic burgers. Buy into your solar powered propaganda. Fuck your feel good monkey antics. I no longer give a shit.
>>
>>16901453
Stop being so optimistic.
>>
>>16897702
Only number 2 hdpe is recyclable but it also is just ethylene in solid form so it doesn't make toxic fumes when burned in the wood stove for heat so that is what happens to it
>>
>>16901453
I feel much the same way. As organized groups the environmentalists have been active for over 60 years now and achieved fuck all. Whatever small victories its all rolled over a few years later, or pointless in the bigger scheme. Educating the public is a waste of time. The only meaningful changes are going to happen in the face of catastrophes and of course by then its too late. Never mind, the catastrophes will eventually balance things out. Just a shame about the myriad of species that will be obliterated before then.

>council workers issuing black marks
sounds like a money harvesting operation. perhaps they are the ones planting recyclables into your general waste in order to collect additional funds and hire more third worlders who hate you with a burning fire. something like that. yeah, it's all a scam at any rate
>>
>>16897702
Chang's IQ is too high to fall for such scams
>>
>>16903299
Possibly. But also just as likely some well meaning but retarded teenager was walking by and thought he would do the "right thing" by putting the litter in a bin.
What bothers me is you can't fight the black mark. Its there for ever and never gets removed. Now I understand why my neighbors always put out their bins at the last minute and why they immediately run out like trained dogs to retrieve them once the truck has gone.
Just another pointless humiliation ritual.
Okay, well now they are getting my humiliation payback.
>it's all a scam at any rate
Yeah. But with most scams you have to buy into it, with this you have no choice. ( Other than going homeless or innawoods. )
