>the prion protein can just SPONTANEOUSLY misfold and kill you slowly
>uhhh yeah we don't know why lol and we don't have a cure for it double lol
>and it happens to like 1 out of a million people a year

I calling total bullshit on this, nothing just happens sporadically and for no reason. For every action their is a reaction, so what causes this?

>nothing just happens sporadically and for no reason
BUT the set of conditions that result in the outcome can be so diverse and multi-faceted that it's effectively random.

Randomness can still be deducted to a generalized source.

Random quantum tunnelling within the protein structure. It's unlikely but possible

But why does it tunnel quantumly?

Just cause

Analogy time:
You drop a feather on an exceptionally windy day. How certain could you be that said feather would collide with a pole standing downwind of it? Assuming you know the prevailing direction and speed of the wind, how far, wide, and tall the pole is, and had full control of what angle the feather will be released at. Theoretically you could deduce it by tracking all the eddies in the wind and align the feather just so that it makes perfect contact. But realistically the sources of those eddies is every standing object around you. And you are probably not going to be able to align the feather with precision greater than an arc minute. So we have multiple sources of variance that are effectively incalculable determining whether the featger hits the pole.

Likewise, there could be so many things in the protein's environment that could cause a misfold if they all align in just the wrong way. And each one could be mundane, or even a net positive, for the body on their own. But maybe you just happened to eat an apple at the wrong phase of your metabolic cycle and some secondary metabolite reacted with a secondary metabolite from some celery you at two days ago and that reaction put out just enough energy to knock something lose in the protein and cause a misfold.

How do you know it isn't a kill switch used by (((government))) agencies using some kind of reagent and known metabolic pathways? By shear numbers the misfolding event is something greater than 20-30 sigma and beyond - if the story is just a misfolded protein and that such proteins are never cannibalized.
I am thinking of mad cow disease where the prion disease is triggered by cannibalism of prion infected tissues.
I am done digging into this. I already consumed enough dangerous information and this is starting to look worse than sids.

>(((spontaneously)))
and i’m sure it takes a few million coincidences for that to occur
