>the universe is expanding
Where is it expanding to?
>>
Nowhere. The space in between everything is just getting bigger.
>>
Into itself technically

anon, just go to the limits of the universe, observe the outside are and take a few samples and measurements of both areas, was it really that hard? damn you frogniggers and your shit threads, so incompetent and dumb

I used to think the fact that the universe is expandimg means there's a 5th dimension it's expanding into. However, when I asked my professor, he said that's not true and refused to elaborate

Its expanding to be the size of your mum

"The Universe" is just a phrase that means "Everything we can see or will ever be able to see" but in reality we have zero idea on how big the true universe is and due to complications with the speed of light and the Hubble Horizon issue. So when scientists talk about the size of The Universe they mean this sphere we can observe but nothing implies that the true universe has an end. It's more likely it's infinite. Which mean Our Universe could be one of infinite such universes in a sea of space that expands forever. Think of Our Universe as an island on a vast limitless ocean. Lets pretend for scale Our Universe Island is 1 mile(28.5 gigaparsecs) in diameter, other unknown universes are similar sizes, 0.5-5 miles in diameter. It's likely these universe islands could be thousands of miles(1000*28.5 gigaparsecs) from their nearest neighbor. So to answer your question Our Universe is expanding into THE TRUE UNIVERSE which is beyond our ability to observe and will forever be unobservable. The beings on the other universe islands are also in the same situation mind you. It's the same concept of cosmic scale that has our solar system as an island of matter and planets and moons and a star. But once you leave the Oort Cloud it's just dead black space for light years and light years until you reach the nearest star system. Space is a vast ocean of nothing dotted with tiny specks of matter. When you zoom way way way out Our Universe is the same concept.....to a degree. Our knowledge of the edge of the Observable Universe is very limited and what we observe could only be a tiny percentage of the island if I can borrow from my above metaphor. As far as I know no true end of Our Universe has been found and it's likely one will never be found.

Your professor is a retard, it's super easy to explain, see above.

also why do you retards come to this dead board to post nonsense mom jokes.....like seriously

The overhead of the big bang is outside of our universe. This universe can't be infinite, we are just small. It's not going anywhere, just spreading around some preconfined space.
>>
>>16919032
Without differential geometry under your belt, you wouldn't get it
>>
>>16919036
How do you know the universe isn't staying the same size but the things aren't just getting smaller?

That's a really cool and interesting question. You should ask @grok about it, I'm sure xhe would be happy to intellectually fellate you.

In other words, he's got a long way. In other news, if it's a ring with curtain railings on it, couldn't the expansion of the universe just be a circular motion of time rotating around on it? Because we are in the center of a wormhole..
