why do we colloquially measure weight in kg instead of Newtons?
>>
>>16922619
we?
>>
>>16923816
Yes, we, civilized humans.
>>
>>16923839
kg is not a scale of weight
>>
>>16922619
but we don't "weight in kg instead of Newtons"
all we do is call mass "weight" colloquially
i'm not even being pedantic here, there is a difference
and besides for most practical purposes in day to day life, mass and weight as terms are basically interchangeable since we mostly just use the two words for describing how hard it is to lift some shit off the ground (e.g: your mom)

easier to weigh something (use a scale) than to measure its mass (use a balance)
also, everyone on earth is more or less experience the same g, so practically weight and mass are interchangeable in everyday life
lastly, the distinction is too much for 98% of humanity to appreciate
>>
>>16922619
Isaac Newton was too heavy to be the base weight unit so we had to pick something smaller
>>
>>16922619
We don't? When you step on a scale, whatever weight force you get is divided by ~9.8 or whatever acceleration there is due to gravity (g) to get mass (either electronically or through something analog)
>>
I thought we used stones?
>>
>>16922619
Because we're actually measuring mass most of the time and weight is just a convenient way to do it.
>>
Newtons are a unit of force, not a unit of mass. This fails basic dimensional analysis.
>>
>>16925963
and yet eurofags will claim their ways are "more scientific"
>>
>>16922619
If humanity ever builds a grocery shop on the Moon, will products sold there be advertised as being one sixth the weight?
>>
why do we colloquially measure dicks in inches instead of pounds?
>>
>>16927963
Mental retardation or 12
>>
>>16925963
Weight is measured in newtons or pounds. Calling any measurement in kilograms as "weight" is nonsense. Kilograms measure mass, not weight.
>>
>>16922619
scales measure mass by measuring the weight and dividing by Earth's gravitational acceleration.
if you want to be pedantic then measuring mass would be impossible since the only way to do it involves a force of some kind.
>>
>>16928058
sorry anon, you can use cm if it makes you feel better
>>
Because gravity is constant enough to replace force with mass
