now that the dust has settled (on the sea floor), what did the /sci/ community learn from this terrible accident?
>>
nothing
it was an engineering issue

i still lol about it

The youngest guy didn't want to go because he thought they'd die, but his father really wanted to and was a huge fan of the titanic so he went with him.

Never go deep subbing in a fiberglass tube
>>
>>16927084
Having a bunch of rich people die in the ocean due to the hubris of the ship builder while trying to gawk at the titanic was some real life kino

he should've just not went if he was so concerned

carbon fiber fails catastrophically upon reaching its limits and should never be used for pressurized vessels unless it's reinforced far beyond any operating parameters, but even then it seems so horrible to use because you have to continuously inspect for any imperfections that could propagate stress fractures continuously while being below its measured threshold.

it's a shame because even though it was a retarded design, i think it could have worked if it was tested better.

Even the most obvious fake would be eaten by (((YOU))). The stupidity and idiocy of everyone leaves not the slightest shred of hope for a better world.

I have learned that absolutely anything can be turned into a conspiracy without even having to explain what it is, thank you Master.

Me posted endless reasons for it over here. All ignored / pruned or deleted. You all are dumb cattle, unable to think for yourself or even discuss arguments that are outside of youre masters brainwwash

I understand why Stockton scoffed at expert opinions and safety procedures. Everything these days is gratuitously overdesigned and overexpensive. His gyverized carbon fiber tube WORKED (until it didn't).

A brave and reckless man hearkening back to the good old days when explorers weren't deathly afraid of even the slightest risks.

I don't know anon, I think those experts might have been on to something

His real mistake was dismissing the July 2022 incident, Titan should have been replaced with a fresh hull after that.

That just makes him a foolish narcissist. Explorers take risks because they have to explore more than they have to not die. Stockton was just a typical insufferable boomer who would be holding up a checkout line somewhere because his gift card was supposed to have $1.10 left on it which he knows because he wrote it down and he is NEVER wrong but instead he decided to do submarines and now it's everyone else's problem.

>>16927790
he is not explorer, he is a tour guide too cheap for safety, a modern day coupon clipper

It won't, you just to dumb to see that this construction cannot dive to 4000m. Hope you get paid for or botposts.

>>16927790
>explorers weren't deathly afraid of even the slightest risks
It's slightly less heroic when you're making others take risks with you
>>
Why was he so determined to use carbon fiber? Okay so it’s a little lighter and a little cheaper, big deal. You’re building a tube with a window on it, it’s not exactly Red October. Just use steel.
>>
>>16928557
>Why was he so determined to use carbon fiber?
In pretty sure it was because he wanted a bigger sub to fit multiple people for tourism purposes rather than exploration /scientific purposes. I guess they worked out they could make it bigger with carbon fibre somehow. Apparently doing structural finite element analysis on multi layer carbon fibre tube is difficult and more error prone compared to the common solid steel sphere type subs that are used for deep dives.
>>
>>16928557
>cheaper
That was mainly it, so he could run a profitable tourist trips to bottom of the ocean. He also came from a tech-bro Silicon Valley enviroment and wanted to "disrupt the industry". Turns out that doesn't mesh well with ignoring health and safety regulations.
>>
>>16928679
>Apparently doing structural finite element analysis on multi layer carbon fibre tube is difficult
Easy because it's an epoxy tube where carbon has no effect in pressure direction (but on eg wings it works good). In fact it's weakens the epoxy because of imperfect und not controllable binding. This tube will not withstand the 10 000 to 100 000 tons (400kg/cm2) pressure in that depht. He never has an intention to dive it's a scam .
>>
>>16930381
>He never has an intention to dive it's a scam .
???
He performed several deep dives with it and literally died during one.

and the Easter Bunny runs over the meadow and hides colorful eggs because Christ was nailed to the cross. But it’s good to see that you haven’t the faintest idea what I’m talking about, and have to regurate the vomit they shoved down your throat

He was 19, a grown-ass adult. Part of the reason he felt compelled to go is that his mother was supposed to go in his place.
