If the diameter of the Milky Way galaxy was the distance between San Fransisco and New York, Voyager 1 would have travelled a total distance of 4.2 inches.
>>16936850>If the diameter of the Milky Way galaxy was the distance between San Fransisco and New YorkIt's not.
>>16936877That's why it says "IF"
>>16936850how much is that in width of human hair?
>>16936925It's not though.
>>16936927The amount of human hair widths in 4.2 inches is roughly 600. The distance between San Fransisco and NY in human hair widths is 23,528,571,428.6. The Milky Way is around 5.588352e+25 human hair widths across.
>>16936850yea but Voyager is not going to New York nor San Fransisco, so what's your point?
>>16937160It puts the size of the universe into perspective nicely. Or the size of galaxies anyway. There's been news about Voyager one reaching one light day of distance for the first time, that inspired me to make this thread
>>16936850You didn't change the size of Voyager 1 in your scenario, only the diameter of the Milky Way.You created a Voyager 1 of gargantuan proportions relative to the size of our galaxy.
>>16937407My bad let's do that. The antenna of Voyager 1 is 3.7 meters in diameter. In the new scale where milky way is the size of USA, that antenna becomes 15.2 femtometers in diameter which is 2.7 times the diameter of an electron according to Wolfram Alpha. So the space probe is barely larger than an electron.
>>16937466>the space probe is barely larger than an electron. You're saying a lot of silly things today, anon.
>>16937469Find a thread about 0.999... being equal to one and you find people saying a lot sillier things
