That's about the trajectory that the spacecraft made two times around the earth before heading to the moon orbit.The horizontal distances of the ellipse relative to earth surface are drawn to scale but I wasn't exactly sure about the length of the vertical axis. The closest distance to earth surface on that orbit was 185km and the farthest 70 000km. I got these numbers from this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV3pAQXVciE [Embed]Mad to think that first it went that far to space, and then sweeps across the earth on no more than 20 times the altitude where planes fly. The ISS space station goes around the globe in 90 minutes being in such a low altitude, this is less than half of that.
