If one were to take psilocybin mushrooms in a responsible and controlled manner, could they increase their IQ by a few points? I've heard that in some cases they can reverse brain damage. I wonder if it's true. What do you think /sci/? Or is it all just popsci and druggie bullshit?
>>16938166Is there a logic that explains how IQ measurements could surpass the collective IQ of whatever group of people designed the measure?
>>16938172Thats a very good question, but it's not for this thread.
>>16938175So "IQ by a few points" means what in this thread?
>>16938182Does it help create or destroy pathways in the brain? Basically.
Damn! A thread made for me.Anecdotally, yes. I trip about once a year. I take an iq test a within a couple months of every trip. I've been doing this for about 40 years and my iq has gone up about 5 points each time. Give or take.
>>16938183Doesn't everything you see create a new pathway in the brain? Look at this pic, now OP looks like Gonzo the muppet decaying from a fungal parasite
>>16938187I'll accept your concession
>>16938190>accept your concessionTragically the IQ boost didn't work in your case, it was all destruction.
>>16938190>Indian debate syntax
Do smoke shops sell these or do you have to find a plug or buy from the dark web?Not looking to become a druggie but ive read about some of the possible benefits of micro dosing psilocybin but I have no idea where i would even get my hands on some
>>16938227You have to scalp a hooker and then roll a blunt with the skin and smoke it in front of a native American shaman. The shaman will then hand you a laptop with a tor browser opened to a reputable drug buying site.
>>16938230Sweet thanks bro
>>16938186where do you get psilocybin?
>>16938467>>16938230
>>16938206That wasn't me anon. Sure maybe everything new that you might've not seen may have created a new pathway in your brain for you to react too. But if you interact with the same activity and habits, I don't think much changes. Does it? Gonzo I would say did something, but it isn't psilocybin. Unless you want it to be.
>>16938481The best I can say about cubensis et al. is that maybe it connects a pathway that feels more important to you than a random pathway because the pathways you thought were random weren't.
Yes, absolutely when used sparingly. It lets your brain temporarily move and work in atypical non-routine ways, and can break and re-sod brain paths that are thought about too frequently.
The understanding of the mind as that understanding stands is barely able to offer an account at all of what happens when the mind is affected by the mushroom tryptamine alkaloid Like there’s something in one of the civilization games that emerson pugh says "If the human brain were so simple that we could understand it, we would be so simple that we couldn't."Just going off the assumption that iq tests are not probably accurate parameters for measuring reality lets speak on more accurate measurements of reality or accurate peer reviews one of which is that a chemical from eating old overripe mangoes will improve a weed high, go look that up on the internet, that’s peer reviewed chemical lore
>>16938596What about that is bad if used more than sparingly
>>16938614I believe it's because it increases the chance of a "bad trip".
>>16938596I do think the type of species also matter, right? There's no way it wouldn't. Many mushrooms have hallucinogenic properties, but it doesn't mean they're all the same. Many of them will kill you if you ingest them. Which ones are the right type to use for this? Can't be any old psilocybin mushroom.
>>16938166I did a bit of of psilocybin mushrooms in my early twenties. TLDR: IQ went down a few points, but I am not sure if it's from mushrooms. One 2 grams dried trip. One 3 grams dried trip. Two 4 grams dried trip. One 8 grams dried trip.I was studying molecular sciences with a particular interest in biology and a philosophy hobby. So mind altering substances that did not permanently impair or damage the mind were of great interest to me of course.I think I did weaken a few aspects of my cognition directly because of the trip but also gained strength in others. All of my trips were horrible and were about 90% nightmarish thought loops on me and everyone and everything else being the same consciousness, but unable to wake up from an endless eternal nightmare. So the same consciousness experiencing being slaughtered in a meat farm, dying in war, being eaten alive, being burned alive etc. every imaginable gruesome experience that any conscious entity is experiencing in the universe. Pretty horrible traumatic mindstate. The 10% that was good was a state of euphoria, creativity, a body high that I cannot describe. All of my senses sharpened and improved. The entire world was music. Long term effect of these is that I unlocked anxiety, something which I never struggled prior to. I became much more artistic and musical. My ability to visualize objects in my minds eye improved a ridiculous amount and I already could visualize things in great detail, colour and motion. It's so good now that I sometimes can imagine things in my mind that are crisper, more colourful and detailed than if I were to look at them with my own eyes. Its blindingly and uncomfortably bright sometimes. My verbal memory went up but ability to construct sentences eloquently went down.I do feel a bit slower, but I also feel more conscious.
>>16938166I don't know about mushrooms, but meditation increases white matter and improves myelin sheathes.>https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4209813/I can't find the papers but, it can also decrease white matter if practiced with poor sleep. And your brain also goes into a type of withdrawal if you take a significant break from it/don't practice regularly.
>>16939372Yeah, I've heard stories about bad psliocybin trips. I do not doubt the claims that those psliocybin mushrooms lowered your IQ. But I do believe it was mostly because your trips were nightmarish; those probably gave you some sort of brain damage. The thing about these mushrooms is that you have to be extremely prepared in order to have a genuinely good trip.
>>16942266Oops, I switched the i and l around in psilocybin, my bad.

>>16938227The safest way would be to grow your own, look for grow kits, they are legal and easy to use
>>16945182I'm going to look into it, because I don't want to deal with drug dealers.

>>16939372I don’t understand all this bad trip anxiety talk. I’ve eaten pounds of shrooms over the years and never had this problem. Sometimes I’ve had bad times/experiences while tripping but that was because of a set/setting problem. I was hanging out with an asshole, or someone tried to make me shop with them in a brightly lit WalMart. It’s nice with some good friends in nature, maybe a campfire. Of course I’m a theist, so I feel everything will work out. Shrooms brought me closer to God. Are you an atheist? Did you fuck up the trip’s setting? Did you go outside or stay inside?
