Can we have some Artemis mission thread?

Watching these has shown me that astronauts can be a lot more awkward or sick of the press than I thought. kek

You could just tell answering these questions they were like, "This is fucking stupid."

Anyone know why Orion is slowing down as it flies towards the Moon? Space isn't supposed to have any resistance right? So it "should" keep up a certain speed. But using the NASA tracking site https://www.nasa.gov/missions/artemis-ii/arow/

the capsule slows down. I've seen it lose 12 mph just in a the few minutes I was watching the tracking and playing around with the camera views. It's lost a lot of speed in fact since it was set on it's trajectory burn to the Moon.

I guess the gravity pull of Earth is still greater than the gravity pull of the moon even Orion is still 97,000 miles away from the Moon.

It is Earth's gravitational well. It's pretty big. This article kind of explains it and has other interesting information about the Moon's slingshot effect to send it back to Earth.

If you were thousands of miles from civilization in an environment where everything is hostile to your body, I'd also reckon that you'll be tired of some guy in a comfy chair asking you questions about politics or motivation.

Yes and no. There is no resistance (vacuum) but they are still under the influence of Earth's gravitational field. As a matter of fact at the Moon's orbital radius the gravity is around 3 cm/s2, so Orion should lose 12 mph in 10 minutes.

Cool. Thanks for your info. Appreciated :)

lol are people still this far behind in science?

This just feels like a space version of a road trip. Why can't they already land on the moon with the first mission? If they did that in the 60s it shouldn't be... well can't say it's not rocket science this time. But you would imagine it should be relatively easy. What insteresting is there about a trip around the moon and what do they gain from that?
>>
I hope this stupid DEI mission fails. If 4 faggots have to die that's worth it.
Put people on Mars already.

Eating a Mars bar on Mars would be the most historic moment ever
>>

The system to actually land on the moon isn't ready and they need to produce results now. Yes the mission is essentially superfluous but without it there's a good chance the funding gets cut in the next congressional shuffle if they have nothing to show the voters in a quarterly basis. This mission really proves nothing the previous one didn't except maybe if you can put a woman and a black person into a remotely controlled space vehicle where they have to do precisely nothing and expect things to still work out.

Why would they be dying inside of a green screen studio?

Clean it up whitey

Because there is no force accelerating it up, but there's a force accelerating it down (Earth's gravity)

This is still kind of a test flight, its sort of like Apollo 8 when they had to make sure the thing can actually return people from the moon without worrying about a lander. Supposedly Artemis III will be a bit like Apollo 9 where they test how the capsule interfaces with the lander in earth orbit without landing.

They are still developing the lander, its either going to be the SpaceX starship or the Blue Origin lander thingy (probably the BO one its way less ambitious and doesn't keep exploding lol).
