I personally believe in evolution and would like to learn more about the concept so I can defend my beliefsWhat are some quality resources that break it down in an easy to comprehend manner? My first go to was a documentary but the information seemed slow and largely went over my head

Natural selection can be observed in any simple simulation that allows for reproduction, change, and competition.https://thelifeengine.net/

Ideally, you should come into these sorts of subjects pretty much ignoring the "debate" entirely. Just learn the model and how scientists came to the conclusions they hold today. The more you understand the theory, the easier it is to tell when creationists have no idea what they're talking about. That aside, here's some YouTube channels the do a lot of creationism deboonking:Potholer54 (geologist turned science journalist. A lot of his older videos discuss the issue from a geologic perspective):"Carbon Dating Doesn't Work - Debunked" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APEpwkXatbYThunderf00t (PhD in chemistry. The old age of his channel shows in some of his earlier videos. A lot of it is more of a smug takedown than good-faith argumentation. Decent primer for some of the "entry level" creationist arguments)."Why do people laugh at creationists" playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS5vid4GkEY&list=PLAC3481305829426D&index=1Viced Rhino (smug atheist Redditor with a rhino fursona. Genuinely informative at times. Good for exposure to concepts that laymen might not be familiar with. Sources always in description.)"If radiometric dating is wrong, evolution is still true" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XG4ONs1gK8Gutsick Gibbon (obligatory simp bait. Anthropology student. Primarily focused on human evolution and Out of Africa. Occasionally shows up in Discord debates)."Human Chromosome 2 Vs. Creationism" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVeriF1OL54
>>16956808Nice, I'll look into them for sureI appreciate your reply
What kind of people are you arguing with? For example, if it's christian fundemantalists the quickest and easiest method would be to point them to christian evolutionists (like BioLogos) who they'd probably be more receptive to listening to
>>16956474The Ancestor's Tale by Richard Dawkins. If you want to learn evolution but have no knowledge outside of high school biology, the book is a great read from an evolutionary biologist and theoretical biologist in easily understandable language. If you wish to defend your beliefs in debate, presumably against creationist religious folk, it's Richard Dawkins and you will learn all you need.

>>16956474My click-moment was Dawkins book Selfish Gene. There is many stuff about, podcasts, debates. >>16956870I said no such thing. I specifically advised against any deboonking shit in the first paragraph. But, acknowledging that what OP's looking for is something "easy to comprehend" and would help him "defend his views," popsci youtubers are perfectly sufficient to understand why creationists are retards. And yeah. Viced Rhino is very easy to attack. He proudly proclaims that "some women have penises" and had a satan worshipping, non binary onlyfans whore as a guest on his show at least once. He's worth a spot because he's one of the best about citing sources (ie. "The literature") and diving into topics that are beyond most popsci shit.

>>16956883I accept your concession.
glad to see none of my fellow /sci/entists believe in fake and gay jewish EVILution. we are the smartest board.
>>16956474Can you name the fundamental drivers of evolution and their modes?
>>16956726Some live, some die. That’s the basics of evolution. Not believing in it is like not believing in sunrises
Evolution is fundamentally self-evident as anyone with meaningful knowledge of biochemistry, physiology, ecology, paleontology, genetics, or really any other field of biology would know. Plenty of other fields too, like geology and astronomy. If people are still in denial then they are probably either entirely ignorant to these or are intellectually dishonest and in denial. Rather than try and argue with you scientifically they will attempt to unmoor you with worthless philosophical quibbles or lowly insults, as seen in this thread. And I say this as a religious person myself. Even every Christian with meaningful scientific knowledge has long since become a theological evolutionist, with the belief being God either guided evolution or allowed it to play out until it reached a desired point, and the belief being that Genesis is a poetic and metaphorical ordering of reality rather than a literal scientific description. Really, the belief that Genesis is not purely literally history but rather poetic to a degree has been held within the church since Augustine himself like 1800 years ago.
>>16956873I'll check both of these outThank you>>16956899Mutation, natural selection, genetic drift and gene flow?>>16956905It truly is bizzare to me that people are still treating creation myths as scientific models in current yearIt doesn't take a phd to understand creationism doesn't hold up, there's too many holes in the logicI really appreciate your comment, thank you
>>16956474The Book of Genesis.
>>16957161I don't think 6,000 years of divine incest is a logical explanation for the existence of humanity
>>16957160NTA, but to add, almost every Christian denomination, yes even Fundamentalist Pentecostal Protestantism, hold St. Augustine in some high regard as he clarified many important doctrines in Christianity, such as the doctrine of original sin that almost all Christians follow. Arguing that Augustine did not see Genesis as anything other than poetry is something they won't see coming.
The problem with your request is that there are a billion different ways to skin a cat here. Pick a subject and become competent in it. I personally find anatomy to be the most compelling. Ask a creationist what the differences are between a chimp and a human as a qualifier. They'll probably mention things like brain size, or maybe limb proportions, bipedalism etc. Then you can delve into the fossil record and demonstrate how the human qualifiers they selected are bridged to the chimpanzee. Meaning, there is no concrete manner in which a human "kind" can be separated from an ape "kind" in their worldview. Also, obligatory reminder to not be an annoying r/atheism debate bro. Creationism is held by like 5 people, most Christians do not affirm it. Smug faggot atheists who just use "evolution" as a catch all to own the christians are the most annoying people ever.
>>16957897>Creationism is held by like 5 peopleAnd those 5 people try to force schools to teach their creation mythEven though reddit atheists are annoying, creationists are worse and demand their retarded ideas to be accepted and taught
>>16957914I mean yeah but they clearly won't succeed because everyone aside from the Muslim world thinks they're batshit insane. Also in fairness, for the vast majority of doomscrolling, celebrity sportsball loving drooling normie retards it's entirely irrelevant whether or not they think they were evolved, created, or simulated.
>>16957950Honestly, drooling normie retards are a perfect argument for evolution since they're ape-like and god would've probably done better work with his creation
>>16957897Problem is those 5 are mutts and one is a billionaire who can bankroll shitting up the internet through committees that solely exist to concern troll. The early settlers were persecuted for a reason and the Euros shoulda finished the job to spare us calvinism and related nutjob "bleiefs".
>>16956474If you refuse to believe in a God, you HAVE to believe that somehow we got different species, so naturally, you will convince yourself that somehow we can get from a single cell to a human. And you will try find a bunch of contrived ways that could have caused it.
