>massive intellect>chooses to spend their lives on moving pieces of wood around to outwit other mega-spergs
>>16960205As opposed to what? Earning pieces of green paper? Nothing a human can do actually matters outside of what we arbitrarily decide to care about
>>16960210solving the thousands of unsolved questions for the sake of it, my low IQ friend.
>>16960213Every new chess position past oppening is an unsolved question to solve Feel free to add dozens more of your favorite arbitrary qualifiers
>>16960214kek, yes the ultimate finishing positions of those pieces of wood is whats important here.shoot for the stars bro
>>16960205>massive intellectThey're just good at chess.
> OP
If we use the people with brain function IQ then the wheelchair people would have to be offset.
>>16960205they didn't choose it nor do they have massive intellect, they are just the two best from a tiny contingent that were groomed to play this game since age 2 or something
>>16960205>>massive intellectimplying
>>16960205you can't define intellect you can't test it in the way you define itThe thing you can define and test is the ability to predict outcomes, speed, accuracy etc... Which depends on the activity.Someone who is good at physics or math does not mean they are good at studying philosophy or politics let alone talk to women
>>16960216>shoot for the stars broThey did, Magnus will be remembered far longer than stupid science bitch #432473 working for [company that grifts for government funding] #8272.
The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentleman. The ability to play chess well is the sign of a wasted life.
>>16960205Science is not about intellect but curiosity, discovery, and honesty. Chess is just another stupid sport.>inb4 schizos start seething about le vaxxine, le trannie
>>16960213Why should he? He's had a great life being a chess player. There's also no guarantee he would succeed in academia as he did in chess. In fact, he probably wouldn't, because not many people really succeed in academia these days, even the smart ones. There is also no guarantee he would have the same passion and drive in academia. It's a totally different thing to chess, which is a head-to-head highly competitive 1v1 game. Academia is competitive but in a much more gay/soulless/bureaucratic way. His life appears to me to be far better and more fulfilling than nearly all academics.
that is the exact freedom massive intellect gives you, the ability to choose what you want to be an expert in and get paid for it, but a midwit like you wouldn't understand
>>16960205>massive intellectwhat makes you think that?
>>16960507Can you move the white and black pieces on the board so quickly?
The smartest, strongest problem solvers I've ever known have all been incredibly dogshit at chess. Better than the average player for sure, but gets smoked by anyone with an elo over 1300. Chess has nothing to do with critical thinking. t. Physics professor with friends in math, neuroscience, biology, computer science, engineering and more
>>16960512this is such a stupid analogy, its like saying the smartest math nerd can't do biology, therefore they are not smart, that argument doesn't follow because math and biology have few overlaps compared to math and physics or math and computer science, it doesn't have anything to do with intelligence especially because the time spent solving math problems is time not spent memorizing thousands of chess positions
>>16960514I'm not analogizing anything, retard. I'm stating facts.
>>16960516of course you are, 4th rate professor
>>16960516>>16960512midwit alert.
chess fans are like people that boast about their IQ, except they're even too stupid to get good IQ test results and thus resort to this garbage memorization game
>>16960205>massive intellect
>>16960205>pursue a PhD slaving 5 years on minimum wage with little chance of a job down the line and then even if you do get a job you have to participate in the academic rat race begging for grants until a humble retirement>intelligentPick one. Scientists are idiots.
>>16960205chess in only fun in person with other people less intelligent than you.
>>16960544>>16960561Seething chess pajeets. Your shitty game has already been solved by computers.
>>16960579most chess players make less money than phd students
>>16960205Chess is a boring memory game that pays nothing competitively. Chess pros are hyperfixated autists that aren't smart enough for STEM.
>>16960213Sure. A postdoc contract in the UK earns you as much as a burger flipper. And you need 2 - 4 postdoc contracts, each lasting 2 or 3 years before you have any realistic hope of tenure. So that is 5 - 10 years of poverty before you earn a smidgeon more.t.Former postdoc
>>16960514The problem is that chess doesn't generalize.Being good at chess means you are just good at chess and nothing else.
>>16960216"What's important" is subjective. You are just a narcissist that needs people to value what you value.
>>16960853you didn't understand the part about subject overlap did you?
