Why can't we do gene editing on babies? This would eliminate so many diseases that plague humanity. It's also the most likely cure to cancer.
>>16963983because you don't know the consequences of inheriting manmade genetic mutation
>>16963983cool it with the anti semitism
>>16963983Why cant we gene edit lumps of organs or cells instead? Like having a lab grown heart or lung or muscle and then have lab test experiments with new heart transplants or drug test? Or gene edit these organs and body parts?
The answer is that we haven’t master the technology enough yet. What they need to do first is choose another large, complex mammal, gene editing multiple traits in, then track said traits over several generations to see the potential changes and issues. This has been done on a small scale but on the larger scale of genetic engineering everybody wants (where you’re editing thousands of genes for height, IQ, dick size, etc and hoping they all come out without issue) it’s yet to be demonstrated.
>>16963983The fuck has a baby ever done for me? All those little freeloaders know how to do is drink milk and shit themselves. It's obscene that they'd get the fancy cures before people like you and me.
Pretty sure those chinks are doing it undercover anyway, we'll find out soon enough if it does or doesn't work
>gene editing becomes widely available>every baby suddenly born white>with a 12" schlong>even the girls
>>16963983>I want to live on a planet of 30 billion people where the average age is 80thats why
>>16963983because it's currently safer to just choose which embryo to give birth to (polygenic screening)this is what rich people are doing. Once gene edited babies are 99.9999% safe to do without risk of mosaics etc, rich people will switch to it
>>16963998>because you don't know the consequences of inheriting manmade genetic mutationThats why we should try it with a test group :)We already know its possible with animals, so why not do human trials?
I don’t understand why scientists haven’t just gotten a dog or rat or something, and edited lots of genes related to intelligence, immunity, fitness and other positive traits, then raised and bred and further monitored them to demonstrate whether or not engineering could be safe. To my knowledge all they’re really ever done is chosen a trait or two and edited those rather than choosing a large range to do at once.
>>16964838My guess is there is only so much permittable variability in genetic code before it becomes unsustainable. You can throw a bunch of shit into the genetic code but end up with some horrid mutated biomass .
>>16964846Real life isn’t fiction. You’re not turning a dog into a flesh blob. The issue is more that genes often have multiple different effects and epigenetics complicates this even further. There’s no reason why they couldn’t edit thousands of dog genes at once. It’s just that they won’t be able to predict the effects and may very well just end up with a sickly dog
