Actually it's a lot stupider then that.
"dietary supplements" cannot make hard claims regardless if evidence shows it does what it says. If it lacks what the FDA considers a drug then claims always have to be asterisked
There are real, measurable affects and even long term consequences from taking melatonin for example but anyone selling it can't make any claims without a disclaimer.
