>>16968663The archaic variant is actually still common among the Khoisan (I believe like, 30% of them have it), though they seem to have made up for that by developing larger brains than their brothers. Regardless of if that's sufficient, I'm pretty certain that they developed their own solution given that it's prevalence seems to have been pretty stable over time despite gene flow between them and the other SSA pops, notably Cushitics, who brought them Eurasian blood. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure it's just as prevalent in modern Khoisan as it was in the Ancient Khoisan.
