Most of these women have something wrong with them, but it's usually either something unsexy like depression/anxiety or an outright personality disorder. But they don't want to be mentally ill, they want to be "neurodivergent" because they view that as the ultimate form of validation and an all-express justification for their behavior. I am a psych NP and you cannot even imagine the amount of patients that are seeking an autism diagnosis from me in the past couple years. Almost all of them are 18-25 year olds. I blame tik tok self diagnosers. I have only actually diagnosed someone with autism four times. I am not big on diagnoses as much as I am with treating symptoms. I think a large portion want to be on disability or get school/work accommodations. Some just want to have the diagnosis to blame all their issues on it. A few genuinely want to know. Basically none actually have autism.
