If so, then why so many materialists hate AI art?
>>
>>17062251
people like and dislike things based on expected utility and social pressure. It has nothing to do with semantic bullshit about who technically counts as making something

People who hate AI hate AI because they think it will make their life worse instead of better and/or because it's the prevailing opinion in their social groups. It's that shrimple

Reminder that the following statements are mutually exclusive:

>AI is conscious
>consciousness is a physical phenomenon

A computation is not a physical phenomenon. A computation can be spread arbitrarily across space and time (at least up to sequential dependencies). You can pause it, forget about it for a thousand years, resume it by completely different physical means etc. Show me any physical phenomenon that works like this. You literally can't. A physical phenomenon is held together by reality's own laws. You can't arbitrarily distribute it in space because it's sustained by local interactions. You can't pause it because disrupting its internal dynamics will cause it to disintegrate. It drives itself.

A computation is tied together only by convention and driven externally by physical means independent of its internal logic. "AI consciousness" is literally the cargo cult belief that you can make entities appear by dancing in the right pattern.

Mandatory threadly reminder:

This will be lost on "AI" sloppers, but genuine art is something like an in-joke: an outsider can regurgitate it, but it'll never be funny, no matter what they do. Why? Because you get the joke, but they don't and you know it. And it's only funny when you both get it.

If some alien life form tried to study this situation objectively, it wouldn't get it, either. How come Biped A makes the special mouth-noise and it animates the entire group, meanwhile Biped B gets nothing but blank stares? Must be something to do with status, right? The main difference between you and the alien is that you study with spite instead of objectivity, so there's no possibility of you ever figuring out what's really going on. Not even in the abstract.

The thing about art is that when you really get an artwork, you get proof that there's another mind out there besides yours. One that perceives the way you perceive, understands how you perceive through how it perceives, and wants to share perceptions badly enough to spend its time gaining mastery over a medium. It finds an impossible shared ground between bubbles of reality that never intersect. None of that can ever be true, in principle, of a statistical slop generator.
>>
>>17062742
This entire argument falls apart when the one behind the AI slop is the one prompting it to generate it in a specific way they have imagined it. The only difference is one used a pencil and another used prompts.

basically. the only way you can look at a gen and go "yeah, that's just how i imagined it" is if your mental image lacked any detail. actually, i don't think AI fans perceive any details in the image they generated, either. anyone normal can look at their gens for 2 seconds and see the details are all nonsensical, but the AI fans will swear they can't distinguish it from the real thing. their visual cortex seems to be literally atrophied. neuroscience can probably learn a thing or two from dissecting their brains

There is no materialistic out from this. If human intelligence is a result of physical processes, then all that is created from human intelligence can eventually be perfected by a larger optimized process via AI.

The only out I've seen is an /x/ one. The schizos believe this is a simulation and we incarnate, logged into it, from a higher dimension, one with different physical laws. Our current intelligence is something carried over from that dimension filtered through the brain. Therefore no permutation of processes on this dimension can truly replicate it.

Irrelevant to anything stated. Again, there's zero practical reason to give a shit about whether there's a mind behind something I like when it comes to pure aesthetic enjoyment. I could use a synthesizer to mimic a natural sound almost perfectly and you'd be stumbling in a blind test to determine which one is real:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16119360/

According to your "but art has minds behind it and that's what matters" notion, you could end up liking the sound but struggle to identify which one is "music" due to having been made intentionally and which one is just a random recording.

I scanned the shit show above. Like what are you, a Materialist? Idealist? Because it sounds like you don't want to accept consciousness/computation been a product of physical processes, but is also unwilling to take the /x/ routes. So now you are just wallowing in this limbo created by definition and ignorance.

If consciousness/computation is purely a product of matter/energy, then some combination of physical process will artificially recreate it. Doesn't matter whether or not we currently know the exact recipe.
If consciousness/computation isn't purely a product of matter/energy, then there are supernatural forces currently unknown to science involved. In that case it is possible we cannot artificially recreate it.

But you cannot be a Materialist and say consciousness is not artificially re-creatable in some form of AI.

there are no objective criteria for what physical process is a computation. if you interpret something as a computation, then it's a computation. that's literally it. a computation doesn't even have to be a physical process (like >>17062721 argues). you can take a bunch of physically unrelated events and have them be a computation

They're not made of matter/energy, matter/energy just simply possess phenomenology, and when a sufficiently coherent set of matter/energy characteristics superpose on each other in a local space (as in a brain with neurons firing) the result is a very heavily ordered and integrated phenomenology, such as a human or animal.

They've muddled the meaning of basic words to the point where nothing means anything concrete and the word-guessing horde can't even simulate thinking anymore.

What the spamming wordcel implies knowingly or unknowingly is that by combining purely physical components in certain order (combined with the intention/interpretation of relevant participants) their assembly will trascend the laws governing each constituent. Hence the final "computation" assembly isn't a sum of physical process, anymore. To put it blatantly, an unique one-off magick ritual.
Of course been the wordcel that he is he either do not understand this implication or does but is too cowardly to say it in plain terms. Hence all the mind bending gymnastics and infinite ad hominem in this thread.

it either is or it doesn't exist, as in human fantasy
there are no non-physical processes
>>
>>17064450
there are physical processes and human fantasy. there is nothing else. anything other than physical processes, as in stupid shit that humans say, is fantasy. just a mix of sounds and movements humans make
>>
>>17064460
>computation doesn't exist
Ok, you can take that stance, I don't particularly care.
>>
>>17063879
who are you trying to convince about that?
>>
>>17064472
No one. It just stood out to me how unconscious your entire horde is.
>>
>>17064464
it really is a human construct. we pick and choose certain interactions that are useful to *us*. they hold no particular value otherwise.
>>
>>17064462
If that is the case, AI is the future. Unlike meatbags it can be a system of physical processes with far less limitations.
If

Ok. Then either consciousness is not real or it's not a computation.
>>
>>17064481
>Then either consciousness is not real or it's not a computation.
consciousness is a physical phenomenon. it doesn't exist without physical interactions
it's like I'm trying to debate religious people trying to force their beliefs on us here, trying to find some word play to support their ludicrous claims
>>
>>17064484
Ok. It still stands that either consciousness is not real or it's not a computation.
>>
>>17064481
>>17064484
so something either is a physical phenomenon, either it doesn't exist, it's fantasy. there's no way out of this. at most there are plays on words which is something disingenuous that certain people do
>>
>>17064485
it's a physical process. it's real.
but go ahead, try to reframe what I said in the most disingenuous possible way. I'm sure you'll figure something out

Or it does exist but is something we have not discovered, yet.
This is the reason I have more respect for those full-fledged schizos on /x/ than these /lit/ wordcels. At least the schizos aim at the blind spots and go all in with their off the top theories.
These sleazebag philsotards play wordcel games all day long doing 360 gymnastics that contributes nothing to the conversation other than a waste of goddamn time.

if I bash your head in with a baseball bat your consciousness mysteriously vanishes. some would say it's a coincidence, but if you want proof go bash your head on your nearest wall

>>17064496
you seem to be very mentally challanged with your arbitrary definitions of "event" or "phenomenon". you just pull it out of your ass each time it suits you.
you seem confused by the ability of you defining shit at will, and confuse that for reality. there is literally no way I can make you understand since you lack the necessary neural connections. your brain simply discards it because you lack the structures that would allow you to understand it.
in other words you are dumb. sincerely low IQ dimwit. you do not understand the fundamental mistakes you are making. you just got used to people not calling your nonsense out on >>>/lit/
>>
>>17064503
Notice how being confronted with actual arguments just triggers another mental breakdown. You're not refuting or even responding to anything in those posts.

Did you bash my head or is that just some nonsense coming out of your electrons again?

you never made any argument, you just said some random words that idiots clap for because it's le deep.
but you are low IQ, smart anons here know you are low IQ, and you have no understanding of this reality, at all. you have magical thinking.
stop wasting our time with your brain rot, go back

they stand unchallenged as they are meaningless strings of words. retards are indeed unchallenged in their retardation. everything is you said is pretty much retaded nonsense

Because intellectual posturing should be made maximally unpleasant for sub-90 IQs. These animals shouldn't even have been taught how to read or write.

I know you are low IQ tards posing here. you do not understand the reality we live in

you are imbecilic low IQ dimwits, you have no fundamental understanding of science or this world.

go back with your religion shilling. I am tired of you trying to shoehorn religion and religious beliefs in science using philosophy as a trojan horse. it's dumbfuck idiotic.
you are a few low IQ tards trying to larp as having scientific understanding working your asses off to shill religion here. go back to fucking >>>/lit/ nobody wants you here or your fucking brainrot
your posts reek of dimwit level understanding of this reality.
fuck your beliefs, this is not a place for them.
