When a gas is under pressure and then allowed to expand through a nozzle it accelerates and the density decreases. This results in a drop in both the temperature and pressure. The low temps are causing the moisture in the surrounding air to condense.

Does anyone think this car will be actually on the road? I had people arguing this is definitely flying on the road in two years, but surely this is an insane security risk. We're going to have people flying their cars into your house.

What sort of airbags and seatbelts we got flying our cars into each other?

Any trade centers?

Why is this in /sci?? Its politics.
The current political strategy meme these days is called "flooding"
Produce a flood of controversial, attention seeking, distractions that leave people confused and guessing while wowing the dumb masses with crass showmanship. Businesses are also using the same strategy. Often those with close links to political movements.
The strategy has ancient roots. Torturing witches and heretics before burning them alive was effectively the same sort of thing.
>We know its stupid.

I'm curious about the militarization potential. Light ATVs which can jump gorges? Tanks? Jumping tanks??
>>
>>17076274
They'd need onboard AI of the highest finest military grade of course, to plan the jumps in real time.
>>
>>17076276
(This is, after all, the catch isn't it? The roadster doesn't plan jumps in real time, so every jump is a preplanned stunt. And if you're launching tanks around with hydrazine, hard landings will save delta-v but destroy spines, so take out the human pilots and replace them with AIs. This also reduces the hull / mass requirements. Hydrazine powered think-tanks, autonomously leaping around the battlefield.
>>
>>17076281

>>17076276
>>17076274
The computational cost of flying a roadster is approximately Fuck-All. All you need is terrain following radar and a computer that can do real time trajectory computation and figure out control inputs accordingly. Computers could do all of that at least ten years ago, and probably closer to twenty.
>>
>>17076284
they're still cheaper than robots. good price/performance ratio by comparison
>>
>>17076284

No, I'm talking about tanks. Take out human, put in hydrazine. They do still use tanks, this would make them much better.
>>

>The primary payload manifest includes eight ADAspace spacecraft designed for dawn-dusk orbital regimes:
>High-Performance Compute Payloads: Onboard processing clusters engineered for in-orbit AI model training and algorithm execution.
>Active Thermal Management: Advanced 10,000-watt liquid-cooling loops paired with deployable radiative cooling panels to dissipate computational heat in the vacuum of space.

It is a problem, actually. People who want to launch shit are screaming because there is no capacity since starlink launches hog all of Falcon 9. If your payload doesn’t fit in a F9 fairing or requires more performance than a F9 can provide, there are also zero options. Not to mention F9 is being sunsetted soon and they are just praying starship will be working. This will exacerbate the problem even further as absolutely every starship launch will be full of starlinks and nothing else. All your eggs in one basket sucks, actually.

Not him, but when you compress a gas it heats up, and when you decompress it, it cools down (that's how your refrigerator works)
The bigger the pressure drop, the more it'll cool down, and when gas cools down enough it condenses and become visible

>>17076553
That's more to do with how people push their cars on races. If you design your racing line to take advantage of downforce and it goes away then that's going to cause an accident. If you are otherwise driving in a legal manner on public roads then downforce fans aren't inherently bad. At worst it merely downgrades you to a a regular car which is supposed to survive the trip without accidents. Like you use these and it gives you extra grip when exiting red lights for instance, if you lose pressure it's just going to make you accelerate slower or what ever. Downforce fans are "generally" street legal tech for this reason. They still have to meet other safety guidelines like not being load as shit but the tech itself is viable enough. "Plenty" of supercars have these. The primary problem with fans is that they are kinda worthless feature for almost everyone hence why they are relegated to the supercar territory, you can masturbate how good your car would accelerate but you can't actually floor it on public roads which is usually the entire sales point of a supercar.

Well, it hasn't stopped people doing it. They are just selective when to do it or go canyon carving or whatever. Problem with the Roadster, in whatever form it takes in the end, is a $200K+ minimum halo car competing in a segment without the badge branding power since Tesla mostly sells econoboxes.

Especially when this really high end segment has been moving slowly away from the tech-focus and back to old-school as the trend. Manual transmissions, smaller screens, etc. Tesla is probably better served revamping the Model S and X rather than the Roadster to compete against the SU7 and the upcoming M3 for filling that $80K to $100K range gap.

Of course it's a real car. They demonstrated a prototype.

The funny part is that Tesla's own reservation agreement says the vehicle is still under development and they cannot guarantee it will ever be delivered. They're taking deposits for a product whose existence as a purchasable vehicle is explicitly not guaranteed.

The prototype is real. The production car is a promise. The $250k deposit is real.

Hope this helps.

people in the west really underestimate asian racism, they genuinely think that because most asian ethnicities basically all look the same it means they wouldn't start a racial war over it (they have and would again)
china is inevitably going to fracture into a dozen tiny pieces again like it has dozens of times throughout it's history, when? who knows, but it will happen again at some point, until that point, they get to build rockets that actually force the US to stop sitting on their laurels.

Most people know pretty much nothing. I was reading a book about China, written in the 30, and back then the general population used to think that Chinese are some poor and misunderstood natives who require Western help. So they set up schools and sent missionaries. In response, Chinese thanked them by looting and burning schools and killing Westerners.
Similar thing happened in Manchuria, Japanese built the infrastructure, but the Chinese kept attacking and killing Japanese people so at some point Japanese have had enough and took over the whole region. But in the US Japanese were painted as evil imperialists and Chinese as poor dindu nuffins.

if you are crashing the roadster at a speed high enough to trigger that COPV to blow up rather than just be punctured, you are not surviving the impact period, so it makes no difference to the surviveability of the car.

Grok?

>A puncture of a Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel (COPV) is a high-risk event that generally leads to immediate catastrophic failure. Because COPVs store gases or liquids at incredibly high operational pressures (often between 3,000 to 10,000 psi), any compromise to the structural layer can trigger an energetic explosion.

Some terminally online Canadians fell for the latest iteration of "Elon turned off Starlink in Ukraine" because Ukraine set speed limits on Starlink to prevent Russia from using it to guide drones and that speed limit is effecting them as well.

https://mod.gov.ua/en/news/countering-russian-drones-how-to-complete-starlink-verification-to-operate-terminals-in-ukraine
>Only authorized Starlink terminals will be permitted to operate in Ukraine. This measure is part of broader efforts to counter russian drone activity, while ensuring secure and reliable communications for Ukrainian civilians, businesses, and the military.
>The whitelist helps maintain stable connectivity for Ukrainians while reinforcing security and depriving the enemy of technological advantages. This measure is required to safeguard the lives of Ukrainians and energy infrastructure facilities. For reasons of heightened caution, authorized terminals will be permitted to operate only in stationary mode and at low speeds during movement.

nobody is going to use SI in normal conversation because it's like a tranny trying to force you to use they/them pronouns, it's incredibly unnatural and there's nothing to actually enforce it's use in daily life, no matter how hard it's plastered all over the internet.
it's also a completely meaningless distinction, more of a marketing term than anything else like "5th gen" or "6th gen" fighter.

Grok, how was the actual space number at SpaceX?

>Sad. Space segment revenue was $1.8 billion, up 6% from a year earlier. The segment posted a loss from operations of $7 million, compared with income of $259 million a year earlier.

So, the numbers being pimped are the usual AII bubble wishcasting, and merger revenue going on the sheet and tax breaks?

Major EU telecoms are joining forces with ASTSpace to fight Starlink

>Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica, and Vodafone signed a letter of intent saying they’re considering a joint bid for spectrum that would support European direct-to-device satellite competition for SpaceX’s Starlink. The four telecom companies say they would handle the ground infrastructure while [ASTSpace] provides the satellite constellation
https://www.theverge.com/policy/1013680/european-mobile-carriers-mobile-satellite-starlink

You know it's bad when everyone is trying to team up against one competitor. That means they know their death knell is about to drop.

Elon's Flying Fartcar fact checked

>Tesla says the car carries 600 liters of air, which works out to roughly 440 lbs of air (AKA about 70 scuba tanks' worth)

>The catch is that it runs out super fast so hovering burns about 70lbs of air every second, so the car could stay up for about 6 seconds at most.

Simps crushed again.
