It's a classic and probably my favorite movie, the effects might look a bit cheesy, but they're all practical and pretty good for a movie that old. Event Horizon is a bit newer but still good. I don't really watch new movies, so I don't know if any good alien/monster movies have come out in the last 20 years or so.
