I have, in fact, attempted to, and succeeded in watching (american) football.

I've been trying every Superbowl for few years now and I still don't have a clue how it works at all. I didn't have any issue picking up the rules of basketball, handball, volleyball or even cricket from just watching and a short google but I'm clueless about handegg

It would probably be a better sport if it wasn't so "americanized".
If the players were expected to be polyvalent instead of freaks specialized in one thing only (being a meat wall, running wide, kicking etc..) maybe it would feel more like a normal sport instead of a 3 hours ad break fest.
They have two whole different teams for defense and offense, this is the most outrageous aspect to me.

I tried a few times but always end up quitting at 10th break for ads, even with USA broadcasting its boring ass sport

Not surprising, it's one of the most complicated sports, maybe the most complicated as far as rules and strategy go. Even I forget all the fucking penalties and there's so much going on at one time you have to really zone in to see the details. I learned like most people, from watching with my dad, relatives, and friends who knew more about it than me. However once you understand the scoring regime and how downs work (easy) you can start making sense of it.

Fuck no that's what makes it awesome

Players did play both sides of the ball in the past but they stopped doing that because it gases the players and it increases their odds of injury. The play is a lot better with dedicated offensive and defensive players.

The ads are out of control and have been for a while. That's the worst part about it.

A match was going on here in Brazil, I tuned in to watch.

Basically two teams were ramming each other, some guys were doing things at the side and the commentators tried to make it seem more exciting than it was.

The whole point system seems off to me, I couldn't guess what was being done and who was doing great, things were just happening.

I have and it's supremely boring, I understand why americans only watch the highlights
>>
There are lines drawn on the pitch during the broadcast that show where you have to start from and reach in order to get new lines on the pitch. Throw the ball to someone or run past everyone with the ball, and if you can reach the end of the field, you score. It’s pretty easy to understand the basics. Knowing what all the different positions do, and the more advanced rules, and the tactics, are all completely unnecessary. Nobody needs to know what a touchback is, or whether a safety (the player role) ever scores a safety (the way of scoring).

I did and the play always took like 5 seconds and I didn't even know where to look

I tried giving it a chance a few times when I visited the US, or when I spent some time abroad and hung out a lot with Americans. I think it's a neat highlight sport, some moves really are cool. The game is relatively easy to understand as well, at least the basics. I can appreciate the tactical challenge to the QB position
But all in all, I hate how many breaks there are. I kind of dislike how specialized everything is. Most of the game isn't that captivating to me, but I would see it differently if I had grown up with it. I also hate this tournament format: the regular season as the qualifiers for the actual tournament, the commercial aspect
All in all, it's just not my thing. But I can respect some parts of it, and I don't mind Americans liking it at all. Why would I? However, these NFL expansion attempts into Germany are cancer, they should fuck off and leave us alone. They're shilling this way too hard here

That's the NBA
