It's tough to explain, but over here the tournament serves more as background noise. Like if you were to go to a bar, the games will be on in the background but that's not the focal point of discussion. Meanwhile, if you're a first or second-generation american with roots in a country that follows soccer, you're probably cheering for that nation's team.
