with the world cup coming up, i looked at countries that vastly underperform their population in football. every shit football nation that has a population above 50m (spain/argentinas population figures). each of these countries have a fifa ranking outside of the top 100, compared to croatia being ranked 10 with a population of under 4 million people. these teams are completely hopeless for various reasons. do you see any of these countries becoming any good in the next couple decades? for the ones you think will never be good, why is that? why are these teams so shit? There are a lot of football fans in most of these places, so you would expect someone to make a decent player.

India 1,417,492,000
China 1,404,890,000
Indonesia 288,315,089
Pakistan 241,499,431
Bangladesh 169,828,911
Philippines 114,123,600
Ethiopia 111,652,998
Vietnam 102,300,000
Tanzania 68,153,004
Thailand 65,826,149
Kenya 53,330,978
Sudan 51,662,000
Myanmar 51,375,327

do you have hope for any of these guys? and if no, why not?

Kenya are good at long distance running. if they could combine that with kicking a ball they could just outrun the opposition Klopp style.
>>
the problem with these countries is they have only watched man utd for the last decade and so have learned nothing about how to play proper football

Ethiopia are all starving to death and eating whatever they can dig out of the ground that morning. get a full english in them and they will start to ball.
>>
Population isn't even among the top 10 things that make a nation good at a sport, and no I won't list them fuck you
>>
>>155000227

Of course it is
The only "small" countries that won something in the last 40 years (Greece 2004 and Portugal 2016) did it playing ugly anti-football and boring draws
>>
>>155000227
the more people you have, the more people that could become good footballers
if you took a random street in germany theyre still going to be shit because they have like 50 people
>>
>>155000227
Hes not asking for them to become brazil, but if you have 1.5bn people surely a couple could be decent enough to be ranked higher than fiji.
>>
>>155000277
population helps alot but only if you scout effectively

>India
Increasingly ambitious nation with plenty of young people. They are gaining interest in sports events like the Olympics, building up infrastructure - and they're slowly getting the money for that, their middle class is growing, that's where most athletes come from. Also, FIFA will lick their ass eventually to convince all the potential customers.
They currently lack the infrastructure, but they basically have everything going for them in the long run to at least become a regular at World Cups. But they really seem so hilariously unathletic that this might not help them. They should have already produced a few decent players because of their diaspora
I cannot consider them a future football power as of now
>China
Even bigger mystery. China has had a lot of success in other sports already (which are all less competitive than football of course), their wealth level is pretty much ideal for sports. They have the infrastructure, they have tried investing into football. And yet they pretty much suck
Demographics will make things harder for them. I've been waiting for them to become Japan-tier for many years, but it hasn't happened so far. So maybe they just aren't ready for it
>Indonesia
Expecting good players from more remote places like Borneo or Sumatra might be too much, but Java? That could work. Lots of people there. A lot of Indonesians seem to be big fans. They currently rely on diaspora mutts. No idea whether they can actually produce good players on their own, probably only agile attackers or some shit because of how short they are
>Pakistan and Bangladesh
Same as for India, but even less developed
>Philippines
Same as Indonesia to me: I doubt they can produce players on all positions. But good dribblers? That should be doable. They've already did it a few times via diaspora. They are retards for liking basketball instead as manlets
>>
>>155000411
it's about scouting , big nations have to scout more people , sometimes thats a disadvantage since the talented ones are diluted by a sea of average skilled chuds
>>
Pretty grim list but unrioncslly Indonesia because they can just recruit a team of Dutch diaspora, they have already been doing that and improving a lot.

Other than that maybe China might finally figure it out just because they actually have the capital and infrastructure to succeed
>>
>>155000411
To put it short, I don't think any of these nations can become big powers. They can become much better than they currently are, of course. Maybe produce a handful of players active in the top five leagues and a few others who run around in the lower European circuits. Good enough to become World Cup participants, but that should be it
People have been talking about African potential for decades now. But these nations, renowned for their physical prowess, fail to produce players for all positions. That's even more glaring for nations like the Philippines, where someone as tall as a centerback is a rarity. Also, African nations are the ideal example of how important good coaching is. Even if they have elite players, they can be outwitted
For now, I think China might have a golden generation (for their standards) any moment. Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia could also make a jump within the next few years. But I'd expect more from Tanzania and Kenya in particular. Within the next 20 years, Ghana-level is their absolute max, though, I think
>>
>>155000254
>>155000277
>>155000306
The more people you have the harder it becomes to run an efficient and just system to produce talent, there's the scouting issue >>155000328, then you need larger infrastructure to actually develop the little bastards into players, then there's the fact that too much competition at an early age is the worst thing for player development. in a sense having too many people is actually a burden for sports, the only sport we're good at these days is squash and we're only good at it because it's an elitist sport where very few people get a chance to participate. you think we'd be the best in the world at squash if it was as big as football? no chance
>>
>>155000540
once thats fixed tho , big population countries would dominate , imagine a team of 11 chinese messis destroying any team in front of them , it's a good thing the US doesnt care about football too they would be bullying everyone with their infinite money
>>
The only actual difference between Japan/Korea and China is the fact that they hosted the world cup first. It's all about the infrastructure and long-term development which are imperatives when you commit to an international event of that scale.

Not that this fully applies to any of the recent hosts due to 'reasons' but if China got the upcoming bid it's certain they'd go full Beijing 08.
>>
>>155000682
If the US soccer pipo simply implemented an academy system where kids can sign up and go to football training with their friends for a cheap monthly fee, they would become a top 10 football nation in like 20 years time. The popularity of the sport doesn't even matter, the Latinos alone have a big enough talent pool plus if it was affordable instead of being some expensive elitist shit like it is now, parents would actually encourage their kids to play the sport
>>
>>154999570
indians, the chinese and SEAs are unironically too soulless to play football, their actual population that could be good is like a 0.00001%, most of the list is out of the question
of these i think ethiopia has the best shot at becoming a strong footballing nation within 50 years
the ethiopian people is extremely proud of their nation no matter how bad the situation which is far more important than people may think, and they've proved time and time again that their athleticism is top-shelf in other sports
two factors holding them back are economy and infrastructure, but imo the REAL biggest thing against them right now is the complete lack of ties to any other footballing nation, most african nations can manage to get scouting investing from foreigners very easily because all of them have at least 1 relatively commonly used footballing language since they were all a colony of european powers for a long time and/or are 99% muslim, and ethiopia is basically the only african country where neither applies, only education can really fix this, something like an active effort to make learning a footballing language like spanish or english obligatory in local youth academies
if they manage to get a good generation that puts them on the map one day i think some scouting attempts will be made and it'll be like hitting a gold mine of talent, same story happened with a lot of other african nations already

Croatian coaches have until recently been coaches of the national teams of both China and India.
>India
Their league only lasts a few months. They have no youth academies. They only start training football at the age of 16.
>China
autism, submissiveness and lack of initiative. These are character flaws in football. They also have a very small number of youth schools.
>Southeast Asia
they are physically inferior, it is simply not possible.
>Africa
they depend on European schools, they are not able to create a system on their own due to low IQ. They will never succeed.
>>
>>154999570
>Croatia being ranked 10 with a population of under 4 million people
Diaspora is over half their squad and the rest git gud in better leagues. All the good ones leave as soon as and are turned into proper players abroad.

>>155000411
>Indonesia
>produce good players on their own, probably only agile attackers
Nainggolan had Indonesian ancestry. Out of like 421 diaspora in this country already could produce him.
>>
>>155006421
i didnt know they had diaspora playing for them, where do they come from?
>>
>>155011662
Mainly German, Austrian, Swiss and other ex-yugos. Used to be more and coincidentally Croatia are on the way down now.
>>
>Indonesia 288,315,089
This is the next one and its not even close. They have been going all out with football investment since Eric Thorir and Djarum Super bought Como. They do have a reliance on Dutch mercenaries but they have a fanbase there and they are equally as football mad as Europe just a bit more violent.

Thailand is the next one in line after Indonesia but the issue with Thailand is there isnt a breakout superstar or even a billionaire that owns a team with the exception of Leicester. The Philippines has at least Dro Fernandez of PSG but they focus more on the womens team because they are very successful
>>
Thailand is the most likely one to become good, because they have the attitude and the culture of sporting excellence. Most of the other countries in OP's list are not good at any sports.

Also, how does Vietnam have over 100 million people? It's a tiny jungle, inhabited by a handful of farmers whose parents and grandparents all got Agent Orange dropped on them. How are there 100 million of them?
>>
bing chilling
>>
>>155006421
Nainggolan isn't fully Indonesian, right? And he was born in Belgium after all, developed there. That's what I meant with "good players on their own": Indonesians born to Indonesian parents in Indonesia, developed in Indonesia
>>155011662
They currently have six players who were born and raised and trained in Germany, Austria, Switzerland: Kovacic, Stanisic, Pongracic, Baturina, Pasalic, Sucic. There's also Freiburg's Matanovic, but he missed out. Same for Grgic, Ivanovic, Ljubicic
Also historically, it's already a thing as well: the Kovac brothers, Klasnic, Prosinecki, Rakitic.
A Bayern talent named Pavic also chose Croatia over Germany recently
>>155012630
Vietnam isn't that tiny, it's almost the size of Germany, like 2.5x the size of England and less densely populated
Like all developing nations, they had a high fertility rate and then quickly transitioned into a somewhat high economic prosperity, which drastically lowered child mortality. So they had a massive population boom. But then they went the route of all true Asians and saw their fertility rate fall drastically. But they're just at the beginning, they're still at 1.9 or something. They're currently in a demographically golden era
>>
>>155016738
Yes, a mutt. With a million Indonesians for every 1 of their diaspora in Belgium they ought to do better. Already goes wrong with the abysmal talent detection in amateur FAs. Nainggolan was scouted the old school way. One Belgian scout found him, Verthongen, Alderweireld, Vermaelen, Dembele, Lukaku, and many others for a modest club. Beerschot hardly had any means and went belly-up. Once at Ajax he tried to convince them of De Bruyne, who wanted that move, and Hazard too but Ajax ignored any of his targets except the defenders that he brought from his Beerschot days.
Belgian clubs can't outbid dutchies, portuguese clubs, etc. So have to dip into football backwaters. Had half of Ivory Coast's golden gen playing in Beveren at one time, incl. Yaya Toure. Same when Iceland suddenly could field a team to beat England in the Euros and qualify for a WC. Canadians, Ecuadorians, Norwegians (only a handful with Nusa the biggest name because got outbid for others and could only loan like a Sorloth), and so on. Plenty of talents to be found in football backwaters. Not like Indonesia need to beg Bloom's Starlizard to find them. Talent detection platforms are rather cheap. Could start there and train half-decent scouts to go out and discover the next Van Bronckhorst, Nainggolan, and so on among the 100s of millions Indoniglets. Youth development isn't that hard. These countries just suck at every step of the way. Not much is required and once talents turn 18 European clubs will take over if they're worth the effort and will fix what isn't beyond repair.
>>
Indonesia are unironically on the rise by adopting the Curacao strategy of just being a Dutch B team. They almost qualified this year
>>
>>155022796
The question is how that can carry them. Maybe that supply is already maxed out

We produced FC Barcelona's previous GOAT
Paulino Alcantara my Paisano

And in modern times we produced Neil Etheridge and Alphonse Areola who was in the team that won the Football Championships for France and he plays for FC Paris Saint-Germaine.

But it's only Filipinos winning the Championships for other nations, they use our talent to win championships, while we are so poor we don't have resources to devote to rearing Football Champions locally.

>Kovacic
He returned to Croatia as a child. He played for Dinamo.
>Pongracic

>Baturina
He is not from the diaspora, his dad was a footballer who was playing in Switzerland at the time. He fully developed in Croatia.
>Pasalic
Which one?
>Sucic
Bosnia is not a diaspora, but a Croatian region.
>Stanisic
In fact, the only player from the diaspora in the starting 11.

You're trying to push the narrative that the Germans are developing Croatian players, but that's nonsense on several levels. First, you need talent. You either have it or you don't. It's a genetic thing. Second, Dinamo is in the top 10-15 clubs in the world in terms of profit from player sales in the 21st century, along with Dutch and Portuguese clubs, but they sell not only their own players but also South American players. Croatian players are harder to get a high price than Portuguese, Dutch or Latin American players, which makes Dinamo's success even crazier. Croatian football is a machine.

What are you? Fucking blind? Among the Asian countries, Thailand is among the least attractive due to the Chinese chink ancestry that is the most common mixture among them, whereas objectively, the Philippines has the most attractive looks for having the highest amounts of European (Spanish) descent and having Latin American (Mexican) descent not available to the entire mass of Asia, except to them.

You can also just easily look at crowd videos of Thailand and the Philippines and you would notice that Filipino men are usually more handsome than Thai men (Mostly due to the European and Latino descent the Filipinos have which most other Asians don't have)

Hilariously retarded to count Bosnia as diaspora in that case. These villages/cities are over 95% and in some cases 99% croatian, they all count towards croatian football infrastructure.

It just sounds like jealousy to me that Croatia at least could win some decent medals with their past generation, while Belgium with their "golden generation" didn't win shit. a lot of these are due to charity too. ethiopia couldnt afford to keep 67m alive and were all starving to death, then the first world sent them enough food to keep 114m alive. theyre all still just as poor but now theres more of them that are poor, and if the charity is cut off 50m would starve to death so it has to continue.

Simple fact is that China lies about their population figures. They only recently admitted they are not the most populous state in the world.

A little bit at best. I guess you could argue they still have a few years of probation, but there will soon be players coming up that have gone through the entire project infrastructure. If these don't bring a bit of a jump in quality at least, they've failed 100%. Seems unlikely as of now

Probably about even, but SEAs have shown more glimpses of general athleticism. It is easier to picture them as agile dribblers at least. Filipinos have produced a few decent diaspora guys at least, Thais have at least have a combat sport they are respected for, and Puripol Boonson is a promising sprint star. SEA might also be expected to develop a bit better than India perhaps?
I don't think the difference is great, but I have an easier time picturing a few decent footballers from Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, maybe Indonesia than from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal

If you aren't a Western European or South American country you will never be a "big football nation".

Street shitters don’t eat beef therefore they can’t fully develop physically

Most of the Filipinos who immigrate abroad are poor and lower caste.

If you want to see better looking Filipino men and women you can check at the census results (Picrel) apparently Cebu has 10% of their population be Spanish-Filipinos and Albay around 30%.

Look at their Crowd Videos online and it checks out!

Most Bar Tenders and Boys in the Clubs of Cebu outright look Latino.

Same case in Albay just as the Census predicted.

Instead of relying on poor Filipinos who go abroad just go and have sex with the Spanish and Mexican Flips who are middle class and stayed in the country.

One day I myself will go their country and find cute Flip boys and we will suck each others' cocks. UwU
