The thing to watch for to make it entertaining is called “the count” (how many strikes or balls a batter gets). It’s a mini game within the game.

3 strikes (balls thrown directly into a box below the batter) means the batter is out.
4 balls (balls mistakenly thrown outside the box) means the batter gets a free pass to first base and a chance to run around and score if the next batters do well.

So it’s always fun to see if a batter gets to 3 strikes or 4 balls first. Once 3 batters are out the inning ends and the other team gets to bat.

Watch a game and look for this and you’ll start to get it.

Hitting the ball is satisfying, catching the ball in a glove is satisfying too. The game was built around those two things to give people reasons to hit and catch the ball.

Even if it's not particularly popular here I have played it quite frequently before during my teenage years and imo it's a perfect source for cheap adrenaline. Everything around the game is built over short bursts of adrenaline (trying to hit the ball, capturing bases, grabbing the ball) and instant dopamine if you perform it correctly. It's just a very rollercoaster-y experience
I heard watching it is way less exciting than playing it but I have never watched a game in person before so I cant say for certain

Baseball is this unique game where the team with the ball is the one playing defense instead of offense but I dig it
