The Humiliation Break
>>
Americans NEED commercials. They NEED them. Half time is not enough.

Why do adverts even exist? Does anyone actually view them as an opportunity to see what cool products to purchase instead of an inconvenience that must be endured?

Because companies have money and they spend that money on things to make them more money so they can spend it on things that make them more money and then they hire people with market research skills to find ways of making more money come from the things they spend the money on to make them more money. And then everything starts to feel and sound the same because everybody uses the same market research to make the most money out of the things they have spent money on to make more money.

You guys have to understand two things. Firstly, the good majority of consumer spending is done by women. Women are not only much less critical in their spending habits, often spending an absurd amount on completely unnecessary bullshit and random items nobody needs, but they're also much more receptive to underhanded influencing. Secondly, modern advertising often isn't even about making people want to buy a specific product. It's about building a subconcious image of the brand in people's minds. Most people tend to gravitate to stuff they already know, even if they're not aware of it. If you were constantly being bombarded with messaged about the number 5 and then were asked to pick a random number between 1 and 10, most people would choose 5 because that's that they subconciously grew to learn and identify. This is why global brands everybody already knows still spend so much money on advertising.

If it's the only thing you're exposed to, you get used to the exposure. Like how certain opinions, "left" and "right", perceptions and phrases become commonplace because of our addiction to social media and artificial faddish culture.

boomers unironically think this way, they've been conditioned their whole lives to use good ol' TV as an information feed and will literally believe anything it says
